I don't really get the point of asking such subjective questions to the group - but if you want a perfectly personal opinion: no question, go with the BBS.

There's something about the sharp edges on the spokes and cutouts on Fikse's that look like they are home made to me. I'm sure Fikse-fans will be horrified by that statement, but it's just my person opinion.

My Opinion,

I would not paint the wheels... If you want gold, either go with the BBS or have the Fikse taken apart and re-anodized...

That being said, I would not break apart a new wheel just to change the color... So BBS...

Those two options are what I was considering as well. I like more the brand BBS for sure, but there is something about the E88 that doesn't convince me yet, maybe the convex spokes plus the internal shape of the spokes.

Decisions decisions....

I'm running with Fikses on both my NB and C2S, but the Fikses are prone to cracking and the BBS may be a better quality wheel. I just had a conversation last week with the owner of Wheel Dynamics, Jeff, who expressed frustration with the frequency of cracked wheels on these Fikses. According to Jeff the BBS wheels don't crack like the Fikses.

The difference in weight is negligible - I seem to recall the E 88's weigh about 19 lbs. while the Fiskes weigh apprximately 20.5 lbs.

I owned two sets of Fikse wheels on my Euro 911 Race car and they were very well made. This was in 2007 for clarity. Any lightweight wheel is prone to bending or cracking if you hit a bump or offroad the wheels. I never had any issues with my Fikses unless I had an off track excursion. I definitely bent the rim halves a few times but that is the literal cost of a forged, lightweight wheel. The BBS E88 is a beautiful wheel and one of my favorites. I have heard that they often leak and break bolts so you may have to upgrade all the bolts and have them resealed. I also remember reading that they are not for "street use" on the BBS website, maybe??? Lastly, a friend raced a factory Cup Car back in the early 2000s and regularly trashed his BBS wheels. All the teams looked at those wheels as disposable after any big offs. They didn't even repair them.

So, I would go with the BBS for looks but know you may still bend them while driving on the street. After all, I have never heard that light=strong.

I personally prefer the E88 based on aesthetics. True three piece wheels with the bolts going around the edge of the face just feel more *right* period-wise with a 993.

I've got a set of WORK Brombacher wheels (which are similar in appearance to BBS E88s, but a little heavier and a little less costly) that I'm debating whether to have repainted or sell. At heart I think I'm more of a 5-spoke wheel guy...

I have heard the same thing. It is all based on the fact that the wheels Will be subjected to greater abuse than Street wheels. The race wheels should be serviced either every season or every other season, I don't recall.

The reason for this servicing is that corrosion can get built-up because of the brake dust that gets in the cracks and crevices of where the wheels put together. This is exactly what happens when those wheels are driven on racetrack in the rain and not cleaned. This is why they can leak and why they can corrode and why they need to be serviced. It's all based on use/ abuse.
