Question Fitting Recaro SPG

I have received some Recaro SPGs which I am impatient to instal but I do not know how to go about it.

I have removed my passenger seat and placed the SPG in the passenger side. The seat is far too low and if I close the door the shoulder of the seat hits the door panel below the window. There is also a clearance problem with the centre tunnel. So it seems that I need around 15cm/6" of height added so that the chair fits the centre tunnel on one side and the door on the other.

Now that I have an idea of how high I would like the seat raised, how do I actually go about it? There are so many options it is confusing. Sliders or no sliders? Height adjustable or not? Can I mix Sparco sliders with Recaro brackets? The Recaro UK site implies that this seat will not fit the car. The Sparco USA site only seems to support 911s up to and including the 964.
The Brey-Krause site has a part R-9063 which 'Adapts Recaro SPG to Recaro part#0.20.40 or Sparco sliders mounted 16" apart.' What is a Recaro part #0.20.40? Then there are parts from Speedware, etc

Basically I am rather confused and hoping someone out there can help me understand the ins and outs of seat fitting, and how to ensure a correct fit

Hi Graham,

Kim and I just installed a Recaro PP in my car last weekend. We used the Recaro side brackets and installed the sliders that Recaro provided for the seat. Unfortunately I don't know the Recaro PN#s of those parts (w/o having to uninstall the seat)

You can see the side bracket and the slider on this picture:

Graham,

It definitely goes in as I sit in one every day

Height adjustment is via the holes in the side mounting plates (I had an extra hole drilled to get the seat at just the angle I wanted). Try calling Dave Nunn at Southbound Motor Trimmers on 01264 810080. They fitted my seat and do a lot of work on 911's, Dave will be able to supply everything you need.

Kim et al, I have aluminium side-mount brackets and that's all. Do I just need to add the right Recaro sliders? Any more 'bits'?

I have only found one price for the Recaro sliders so far and it is the same as I paid for the seats themselves!

Now I am even more confused. I received the following reply from Recaro themselves:

"We have no sliders to fit the recaro SPGs in your car.
Please contact Porsche directly about these parts. "

So it seems that the Recaro sliders will not work? I shudder to think how much the Porsche sliders are...

JohnM, thanks for the suggestion but unfortunately I am outside the UK right now.

Hi Graham, Kim:

I bought the seat, slider and brackets from Conversion Technique in Oakland. Their website is:

http://www.ct-motorsport.com/

And the person to talk to is Albert, he should be able to tell you the PN#s

Graham,

I didn't pay that much attention when Southbound fitted my seat, but I'm sure they transferred the slider mechanism from the original sport seat across to the SPG. This may only be possible if your seats have manual fore/aft adjustment. Still recommend calling Dave to get the details.

Thanks for all the helpful replies so far.

JohnM, I think you are correct in saying that the manual seat sliders can be re-used and in fact this slider is probably what I need. Unfortunately I have the 4-way motorised seat with a different base.

Kim, yes my OEM brackets are welded on to the sliders. I need to keep the original seats and mounting parts intact so that they can be reinstalled easily.

Looks like FVD sell them, 280 Euro per set. Look in their online catalogue under interior - Recaro seats - page 1. Their site is www.fvd.de

JohnM, thanks but wow that's expensive! I just discovered that Gert has them for 65 euros per set.

Had Recaro SPG fitted to my 964 and the parts used were as follows;
side mount kit (recaro) x2
seat rails 928 521 489 10 x1
928 521 492 08 x1
928 521 491 08 x1
928 521 490 10 x1
seat rod 928 521 525 03 x2

Unfortunatly I have no idea what these individual items look like or are used for, just that they were required. The original seat rails are attached to the seats and can`t easily be removed without damaging the seats (I wanted to retain the original seats)
