Default 996 Turbo?

Hey guys,

I am thinking about selling my 993 for a 996 turbo and wanted to know your thoughts or opinions.

Honestly? I would never do it.

Yeah, I agree with you. I started having second thoughts after I posted this thread.

Steven Hawking is not handsome but very quick witted.

Jessica Simpson is smoking hot, but comparatively slow.

If ugly and fast beats gorgeous and slower in your book, go for it.

Not to mention that a 996 will likely never appreciate in value.

I have considered the same thing. If I could convince my wife to let me have both I would buy the 996tt but I don't think I can ever sell my 993.

massive step up in performance.

moderate steps down in quality and looks. Moderate step up in comfort/useability

I think they are good attractive cars and would be a lot of fun.

really depends what you want from the car.

996TTs have crept up in value in the past couple of years. You could find a good one in the high 30s now it's low 40s.

OP, if you haven't driven a 996TT go for a drive and you'll immediately know the answer to your question.

Drove my 993 in an autocross this weekend, and got a ride in an '02 TT with a very good driver. His time was 11% faster (car + driver + experience), but I still prefer my car by far.

A 996TT is a lot of car for the money....probably one of the best performance bargains out there. The only problem is that it looks like a 996.

The 996 turbos offer a lot of value/performance for the money.

Check out this current listing for a 2001 in California for $37,500 (no affiliation):

Well Modded 2001 Porsche 996 Turbo (911 Turbo) in Triple Black-Manual - $37500 (cupertino)

2001 porsche 911 turbo odometer: 63900 fuel : gas transmission : manual title status : clean
Up for sale is my well modded 2001 Porsche 996 Turbo (911 Turbo) in triple black (exterior/interior/wheels) with MANUAL transmission. Currently the odometer reading is 645xx and will go slightly higher as I continue to drive the car until the sale is final. I am the third or fourth owner when I purchased the car in June 2009 and it has been my daily driver for the past five years. Will run a Carfax report for a serious buyer to provide more details for reference.

Asking $37500 and this will be a cash or cash equivalent transaction in a bank. Please leave your contact number if interested to help screen out spammers - Will NOT respond to any inquiry without a contact number and will not meet up until I talk to the potential buyer up front.

Here's a list of major modifications/additions on the car:

1. EVO GT700 conversion done by the previous owner.
2. PSS9 suspension setup done by the previous owner. The car is lowered as you can tell from the pictures.
3. Europipe Stage II Quiet exhaust system added by me.
4. Techart rear bumper with GT2 style wing added by me.
5. Newer plugs and coils done last year as part of the 60K maintenance.
6. New Hitachi MAF sensor installed earlier this year.
7. Brand new Michelin Pilot Sport PS3 rear tires mounted five weeks back.
8. GT2 slave conversion so the clutch feel is now in the same ballpark of GT3.
9. Car was de-badged by the previous owner (no Turbo badge on the back).
9. Will add more when I remember them.

Here're the bonuses you will get:

1. Two brand new Michelin Pilot Sport PS3 front tires. The current front PS3 tires on the car still have ~30% tread left.
2. An OEM car cover.
3. Four additional wheels in average working condition - good for track use or to mount snow tires.

Here're some known deficiencies on the car:

1. The carbon fiber trim pieces in the dash area have cracks/popups due to sun exposure.
2. Wind noise at highway speed on the driver side (under certain condition like angle of the wind) due to deteriorating rubber pieces?
3. A couple of dings on the rear panel above the wheels - Don't have time to fix them and the free bonuses should cover the cost if you decide to restore them.
4. I do have two keys but only one with remote functions as the other one was dropped in a pool and the remote functions stopped working - all manual functions still work.
