My 993 and some suspension question
Hello,
I'm from Montreal and have been a Porsche fan since childhood. My family is German and ever since spending my summers as a kid in Hannover, owning a 911 has been a dream. Last week I picked up a 1996 Guards red C2 with 67,000 Miles (107,000kms) and I have never been happier. I recently went through a divorce, sold the house and now seemed like the right time to make the move. My mother and brother work as financial planners and there was always this 993 in the underground parking lot. Driven by a 65 year old gentleman who really loved his car. It is almost perfect, with minor imperfection, but nothing that can't be fixed. He told my brother in passing that he is thinking of selling the car for 33k$ and I jumped on it. I had it inspected by Arnold Faas who is Montreal's go to Aircooled mechanic (i worked in his garage 9 years ago for a few months) and he blessed the purchase.
The car needs new shocks, and to me the ride height is completely unreasonable, it looks like a 959 Dakar rally car So i am looking at suspension options.
I do not plan to track the car often if at all. I am installing 18" 996T twists with Falken Azenis FK-453 tires in 225/40/18 and 265/35/18.

Or the cheapest option (koni kit with bilstein shocks??)

Great story and congrats on joining the club!
If your going to track the car PSS10 are your best choice, if you don't want to spend that much coin then Bilstein HDs and M030 or H&Rs are a great upgrade for less then half the price of PSS10s.
Also the North American ride height on the 993s should be illegal, anywhere from ROW to RS height is the only way to go.

I will most likely not even track the car, so I would not base my suspension purchase on the racing capabilities. I'm really just looking to lower the ride height and change the shocks.
I wonder what the difference is between the Koni/bilstein kit and the Bilstein B12 pro-kit.
With my VIN number, can i find which options the car has?

I met a guy in mtl a few weeks ago who has the PSS10 on his C4 and he says it's too harsh for our roads.
I thought Bilstein HD were threaded for height adjustment?
The B12 and Koni are cup kits, so no adjustment.

I still have yet to do my "intro" post, having purchased my 993 about a few weeks ago. Regarding suspension, I'm in the same boat and plan on going with the M033 + Koni FSD option as I also am not planning to track my car.

Basically it's M030 or M033 (with M030 a bit firmer) + Bilstein's or Koni's for about $1400-1600, or if you want to get adjustable firmness, then spend ~$3K for KW or PS-10's. Prices are USD. Don't forget to budget a bit more for an alignment.

Congrats on the purchase!
FYI: The 996TT Twists will not fit your narrow body coupe very well! The rears will stick out about an inch and a half from the fenders!

Before you spend a nickel, search the 993 forum, for suspension upgrades/mods. There are many ways to go; some better than others.

Correct offset for the NB versions of the 10" rear wheels is 65mm. The WB versions are 40mm offset. The same 8" wheels are used in front for both NB and WB with 52mm offsets.

The car has over 60K miles on it, as most examples have by now, it likely has replacement (upgraded) aftermarket struts already. If the aftermarket struts on your car are H&R or Bilstein (most common brands) and some time in the future need replacement, they can be rebuilt at a substantial savings over buying new – saving at least $1500 over a new set.
Many US cars have had their springs swapped out with aftermarket springs early in their life to lower the suspension to more sporting height. Over time these aftermarket springs can sag. Replacing struts, springs or both as a complete coil-over kit is a surprisingly easy job done with jack stands and one of these: “MacPherson Strut Spring Compressor Set” transforming the ride of the car. Also see “How to jack the car up” safely. An inexpensive height adjustable coil-over option I have had great daily driver results with for the last several years is the H&R Street Performance Coil-Over kit 29954-1 , both springs and matched struts for all four wheel-ends, cost < $2000 if you shop around, I got mine on e-Bay. You can reuse the existing rear anti-sway bar down-links with this kit. The only additional parts you will need for the job is 16 replacement lock-nuts for where the strut mounts attach to the body at the top. Lots of aspiring track guys buy kits with adjustable valving for a considerable premium over this kit, to each his own I say.
