Palo Alto Speedometer repair in CA, They have a website. That's where mine's at right now. Two nylon gears in the guage will self destruct eventually. The speddo is independent, and will still work.

There is a set of plastic gears that turn to goo after a few years and after one too many resets to zero the odometer stops. There are a couple DIYs here that you can search but taking the bezel off the odometer is best done by a pro IMHO. I sent mine to North Hollywood Speedometer, 6111 Lankershim Blvd, North Hollywood, CA 91606, (818) 761-5136 and was very happy I did.

Here's the DIY:

I did it and it's pretty easy once you get the bezel off.

Just got my Speedo back today from N Hollywood speedometer. This time it was the odometer gears. It's super easy to pull speedo out and unplug. I got it back in a little over a week for $145 including shipping. They fixed the mph needle 10 years ago for me. Great service and way cheaper then $995 for a new one! The car runs fine while the speedo is out for repairs. To me, it's a big plus to have the actual mileage on your odometer, rather then going all the way to zero with a new one. I used the DIY posted here on Rennlist to remove it.

However, for the $150...for many folks that's not a bad deal. Since I killed a light in the speedo when I did mine (and haven't fixed it yet...), that might have saved me time/money/anguish over all.

N Hollywood Speedo tests everything while they have it. Lights, needle, odometer etc. I am a huge DIY guy, buy I envisioned some how screwing something up and having to buy a new Speedo. I have kept my car all original and I like having that actual odometer reading. So to stay in the spirit, I removed it, mailed it and reinstalled it DIY.LOL. It works great
