From my perspective it's the same logic as not worrying about a tattoo on your forehead??

It's what others can see.

For me not so much what others see, but knowing it's back there flapping up and down between traffic lights, kinda stupid.

This would be the least of my worries. Who the hell cares what others see, as long as everything is in order? A broken spoiler wall flapping in the wind is an issue, a properly operating unit, not so much.

+1. Let's face it, there is no practical reason for this to flap up and down at low speeds as the real reason it raises at all is to assist cooling at high speeds. At 60+ mph a relative low pressure area begins to develop at the rear deck which can can be avoided, or more accurately "spoiled" by raising the spoiler. At the speeds we drive it's not about handling it's about cooling and below 50-60 mph it is useless at both. Follow a 993 in stop and go traffic and you'll realize how silly the low speed up and down is. Other drivers see it too which only helps perpetuate some of the anti-Porsche sentiments out there. IIHO it screams a "Hey look at me, boy racer" look. Maybe that's why the Euro cars don't work that way.

All this and more. I STILL have not heard a coherent reason for that thing to be up. Does not seem to affect handling even at high speed or cooling even in hot humid weather at low speed.

Does ANYONE have definitive, technical information??

All seriousness aside, with the engine tray removed it allows massive airflow through the engine bay when raised.

Happy Memorial Day!

+100 on the manual spoiler diy. It use to drive me crazy hearing my spoiler go up and down when I wasn't on the highway and stooping at stop lights every mile.

I love the clean lines of the 911 silhouette and this mod keeps it that way all the time.

Question for you that have done this mod, do you ever raise the spoiler? I do some times when I'm on the highway but often forget to lower it afterwards.

It would make more sense to me that it is more functional for aero and cooling with the engine tray attached, but I can't seem to get any real, fact-based verification of that.

I almost never raise it, but on occasion I will just to see if I can sense any difference in handling or cooling. None yet!

I just did the DIY mod of replacing the spoiler gear drive bearing. I do not even hear it going up or down now. Perfect solution.

OK fine. But you still have that "cafeteria tray" flopping up and down.....needlessly!
