NY Internat'l Auto Show: Speedsters' 60th anniversary -- 1 air-cooled Porsche in show
The New York International Auto Show runs April 18 - 27.
In 1900 it became N. America's 1st show, & is the most-attended: >1 million annual guests. ~1,000 vehicles; >950,000 sq feet on 4 floors.
It's now the 1st to celebrate a significant Porsche milestone: the 60th anniversary of Speedsters.
In 1954 NYer Max Hoffman successfully influenced Porsche to release a direct competitor to other brands' light-weight affordable sports cars.
To help highlight Speedsters, RLer FrenchToast recommended me to the good folks at the LeMay Auto Museum ... & my 993 (Speedy) 'snuck' past security onto the showroom floor
With press credentials at Manhattan's Jacob Javitz Center, your "RLer reporter on the scene" went to work:
Click here for the gallery of 'advance' photos I shot during pre-show press days. Public opening's Fri the 19th, including a special event for Porsche Club of America members.
I'll miss Sat's Hershey swap meet, but another RLer generously offered to help store my 993 so I can make the tentative RL run on Sat, May 3
Is this place great or what?!
Shoot me a PM if you want to meet up at NYIAS, or I'll see you at May's tri-state run!

I'm lucky that LeMay covers my car with their show insurance. Why I mention that:
After I asked if RLers could enter, the NYIAS organizer relayed yesterday that she'd like a couple more classic Porsches present this Sun PM through Apr 27. The good news: your Porsche is invited. The bad news: you may have to pay individual exhibitor insurance. According to the document I saw from the recommended insurer that's $135-750.
If you're interested, she asked me to relay pics of your car -- send 'em my way if you'd like in.
In addition to your 993s: If you know of any air-cooled Speedsters in the NYC area, please forward them this invitation.

tentative >>>>>NY/NJ/CT Tri-State Run - SATURDAY MAY 3<<<<<
^^ More:
Group known as PCAR Touring did a spirited drive
ilko, maybe we need a group name?
If you can plan Sat, May 3rd for this year's run, I might be able to offer a ride in my 993 instead of mooching again for the NY/NJ/CT Tri-State Run
Bring it!
What are the details on the Tri State Run?
Scott-- I'm just an outsider, but Ilko kindly invited me to join the fun in 2012 since I was visiting NYC.
Sounds like this year's might be Sat May, 3.

Very glad you like! A little something to say thanks from me, trying to give back to you & LeMay / NYIAS organizers.
I just added a couple to Wednesday's gallery. See what you're after?

Chao-- May 3 good for you? Would LUV to get together again.
From Ilko's 2012 Tri-State Run thread:
a new owner: chsu74
Great fun to meet new-to-me RLers keeping 993s in the RL family:
Chao's Turbo (previously owned by RLer DFWPorsche)...
...& owned by MarkD the last time I photographed it (Laguna Seca Monterey Historics, CA, 2009):

Hope to make it. Have to fly to Europe the following day but it's a late flight.
Ilko tells me to get my act together on putting new shoes on the 3TT. Hope to get that done this week...

Chao-- I heard from Ilko last night. He's not organizing May 3rd, but it would be great to re-unite those that met for 2012's run + new friends for a casual ride.
I got to drive your highway to Hershey in 2012, but never your beautiful & historic twists in my own 993. What better way than with RLers!
Can't wait to see you, him, & maybe your new shoes
Similar to you leaving town Sun May 4th, so does my 911.
I'll be on the west coast starting Apr 26, but fly back May 2 for a RL run. Like to hear from NY/NJ/CT RLers - join us May 3?

Great timing with your post:
I just uploaded Thursday's pics, the 2nd of 2 press days - click here for the new gallery link.
Its opening photo was e-mailed to me by an enthusiast I haven't met, but he wanted to share his shot. A nice surprise
The remainder are of the set-up for an opening night party, where the LeMay Museum was the sole exhibitor invited to display cars.

New link to photo gallery from Friday, public opening day: click here.
>120 behind the scenes 'set up' pics from the Lemay Museum's showcase before the doors opened to the public, more of chsu74's Koenigsegg Agera R , 1 of many kids' 993 selfies, + brand new/ concept/ & classic cars under the spotlights.
He passed me like I was standing still
Another reckless show car, careening toward a wall:

Will have to see if I can get my responsibilities squared away before leaving for an overseas business trip. Plan without me to be safe.

Auto Show NY is a colossal accomplishment, in terms of scale & professional appearance.
Show Facts:
• Truss, motors, A/V equipment and lighting accounted for 2.2M pounds of Truss work equaling the
weight of 4.89 Statues of Liberty
• Over 275,000 SQ. Feet of raised flooring used throughout the event
• 13.96 years in man hours
• 120,000+ worker hours
• 500+ over-the-road tractor trailers needed to haul material required by the event
A glimpse into the custom construction for just 1 of the many brands' displays, on just 1 of the 4 floors:
