Default GT3 Seats

Although I should spend my money on other mods first I think I am going to dive into the GT3 seats now It will take awhile to get since I will order them in cashmere to match my interior so I need to order them pretty soon. I was just wondering whats the best price anyone has seen on them in leather??

Make sure you get the version with the 993 brackets. AFAIK, only Gert can supply those quickly and without hassles.

I agree with Viken. I got my cloth GT3's from Gert as well. He knows what you need, and he's got a 993 to boot! ;-)

Just curious but why buy GT3s when Momos or Corbeaus are a fraction of the price?

Nota-troll:

Although I track my car it is still a weekend car. So I want the look of Porsche leather with the function of race seats when I'm on the track. If this was a track only car I would buy SPGs.

Kristoffer,

I don't know who may or may not have the "best" price on the GT3 seats on any given week, but I would recommend Gert for the outstanding service that far outweighs any minor price differentials.

My leather GT3's that I ordered from Gert arrived at my door from Brussels two days later. As Viken noted, every US vendor that I spoke with was not even aware that a 993 version was available from the factory, and swore they would only fit 996/986's.

Gert rules .

Good luck,
Tim

As a possible alternative to the GT3 (make sure you fit in them !), you might consider recovering Recaro SRD's or the some of the other leather offered "hybrids".

I too have cashmere guts and took SRD's and had an ulpholsterer recover them. Turned out sweet and I am in them a lot less money than the GT3's. I was able to match the cashmere and mick the grain quality as well. I liked the American through died leathers as well. Tough and subtle.

2 cents worth...

Kristoffer:

I sent you a message with a photo of the seats installed.

The recover was around $1300 in a higher quality leather. I actually used a Jaguar tan as it match better than that Leather Co.'s Porsche "Cashmere" sample. Feels, sits as good as they look.

Not only do they hold you in well, I just did a 900 mile road trip in them.

Have fun !

Kristoffer,

I also purchased my GT3 seats from Gert, and am happy that I did. As Viken suggested, it's important to get them with the 993 sliders. Made installation straightforward, although you do have to drill out (enlarge) two holes to allow a rear inboard guide peg to fit. This was discussed in the instructions that Gert sent me (which, BTW, were in French - my wife translated them for me!).

If memory serves, I paid about $2,700 U.S. for the pair. However, the exchange rate was more favorable back then. The GT3 seats are the perfect units if you want something very functional for the track, but still elegant and factory-looking for a daily street car. They even have the Porsche emblem embossed into the headrest.

Lastly, I would suggest that deep dish seats are an excellent choice as an initial upgrade. They allow you to stop bracing yourself against the steering wheel as your butt flies across the seat in corners. Also, the improved feedback allows you to get a better appreciation of what your car is doing, and I think they contribute to improved safety as well (doesn't every upgrade? ).

Best of luck with your decision.

If you end up getting the 996 brackets you can make them work with some creative alterations or order the 993/964/911/944 brackets from FVD. IIRC there is a supplier in Dayton who will match Gert's price. I'll have to check when I get home. Tweeks had them for $1500 each in leather a couple of catalogs ago.

How about Sparco milanos ? Beautiful, just as much side "hold" as the GT3s, $1000 to $1500 less for a pair, and they recline !

I guess I want someone to try this and report before I do it ;-) Sorry!

Greg and Temple,

Both of your suggestions are beautiful seats that offer vastly improved access to the rear seat area via the reclining feature.

However, judging by the pics, neither the Sparco Milano or the Cobra Misano offer nearly the same lateral support in either the rump or shoulder area as the GT3 seat. Some racing experts specifically warn against seats that brace you primarily in the rib cage area rather than the shoulders.

I think the Milano and Misano are rather similar to the original factory sports seat, which was not up to the task at the track.
