Reunited with my old C2S!!!
After 2 ½ years, “Joe” is on his way back home! A few members on the Rennlist Facebook page have asked for the story on the car, so I thought that I should make a formal re-introduction here. The ’97 C2S pictured here was the first 993 that I ever attempted to buy back in 2008. Another Rennlist member owned the car and we had talked about me buying it, but we were $2,500 apart in price and since winter was approaching, we decided just leave things as they were for the time being. At this time the car had 13,800 miles and was in beautiful shape. Here is a shot of the car that the owner sent to me:
A few weeks later a 10,000 mile C2 popped up on eBay. I told my wife about it and said that although I wanted a wide body, if the price was right I might pick it up and have it hold me over until the right WB came along. She said OK, so I gave the seller a call. She said she wanted $28,000 for the car and I bought it sight unseen. It needed about $3,500 worth of work to make it roadworthy, but I was still about $4,000 under what it was worth then, so it turned out to be worth taking the chance. Here is a shot of the car after I had the work done and the car detailed:
The next spring the owner of the C2S emailed and said that he would accept my offer if I was still interested. I went to the bank (AKA my wife) and we agreed to get the car and then keep the one I liked best and sell the other. I ended up keeping them both for a little over 2 years while I made my decision My kids would always get confused between which car was a C2 and which was a C2S, so we decided to name them. After much deliberation, we went with the first names of the people who had sold them to me. The C2 became “Judy” and the C2S became “Joe”. Here is my favorite shot of the two of them together:
In the summer of 2011 I decided that I was going to sell both cars and get a Turbo. It took a few months, but by October both cars had found new owners in other parts of Canada. I kept in touch with the new owner of the C2S as he lived closer to me and we hit it off really well. He was a very honest guy and when I was in the process of selling him the car, I received a higher offer from a dealer and I did the right thing and sold him the car at the original price we had talked about (no money had exchanged hands at this point, so I was really free to do whatever I wanted). That gesture would pay off later on…
For the next 1 ½ years I looked for a 993 Turbo on and off as a number of life events popped up that required attention. I finally gave up on the Turbo idea after seeing how expensive they could be to acquire and maintain. I spent another year after that looking for another WB. I did 2 PPI’s and another 2 Rennfax’s on potential WB cars before I finally got some good news. The fellow who owned “Joe” was ready to sell him back to me! Unfortunately, he had developed some back issues and getting in and out of the car was difficult, so it was time to move on. “Joe” won’t be coming home until the weather is better, but here are a few shots from when I previously owned him. He just turned 16,000 miles and I am grateful to have the chance to own him again. My plans are to add a set hard back sport seats and enjoy....

Great story, nice to hear you are getting her back. Too bad there isn't a way (that I know of) to avoid paying tax again on her. Enjoy your old new old car
are you going to look for RUF wheels again?

Great story, and I will second the reference to the Golden Rule. Kudos to you for doing the right thing when you sold Joe and now it came back around. No don't sell him again!

Thanks guys! Danny, I had the Rufs on the C2 and loved them on it (although the car needed to be lowered). I don't really like the look of Rufs on a WB without a spoiler, so I think I will stick with the twists on this for now. One day when I am rich and famous I would like to own a C4S with the Aerokit and 19 inch Rufs in addition to my C2S

Glad it worked out Mark esp when 993s (C2S) are getting harder to find, sounds like it was meant to be for this one.
Totally agree with RUFs on 993s w/spoilers.
And good luck on the sport seats hunt, another crazy market right there too!
