Default Poll on hydraulic lifters

Geolab brought this idea up, so I thought it would be a good idea to conduct a poll on who has changed their hydraulic lifters at what mileage:

******* If forgot some important options for this poll, so it is now closed, go to version 2 ********

83,000 and still original lifters. No noises at all. Maybe I'm running on borrowed time.

They will be replaced during an engine/transmission drop and at a lower mileage than in your poll.

My lifters are silent but they are 19 years old.

Replaced mine as part of top end rebuild at 123k miles. Weren't making any bad noise (except when starting after winter storage) but the lifter o-rings were toast.

@ almost 129k, still stock as far as I know and no noise to speak of. Talked to all the shops that serviced the car and nothing major done, supposedly. I got lucky because mine was a corporate car for some lucky fellow for more than 80k miles.

Great news! With the hundreds, if not, thousands of members in this subforum, only a tiny number has had to change their lifters...

Sample size of 20 is not that large yet - and it would have been good to get a "I have not had to change" option on the selection to see how many negative cases we have.

I know from experience that they are not a chronic failure point, but do fail, especially on high mileage cars. Definitely prudent to replace on top-end jobs, or even if the valve covers are off and some issues have been occurring.

What I do not have any hard data on is if this causing any excessive cam wear if it happens during the occasional startup. Lets just say this happens every month or so because someone tends to leave their cars sitting, is this an issue, or is it worth cranking the engine over with the DME relay out to get oil pressure, and then start the car?

Cheers,

Mike

Yes, I realize that, but how do you modify an existing poll?

Hmm, I think these polls are one-way streets .. no modifies. Be interesting to see where it goes as the sample size goes better, but right now, the lifters are showing a fair amount of longevity....
