The parts are really tiny and if a spring or barbell is lost the switch will not work - and you have no a/c.
My switch was working intermittently but after cleaning it works as it should.
X50tyoe, any chance you can describe the cleaning process and products used to clean your CCU. My upper button functions intermitently as well...
TIA,
Paul
The cleaning process is simple enough; WD40 or your contact cleaner of choice, tweezers and q-tips.
The CCU facia is held in place as show in No. 1 photo, the tabs are at the top and bottom of the CCU. The ribbon cable needs disconnecting - green arrow.
The dis-assembly of the switch [No. 2 photo] requires careful attention. The switch is held in the housing by tabs on the sides, easing these open will allow the innards to be very carefully pulled out. Note where each piece is located, because you are going to have to reassemble it just like that. - you can see from the pix there are a number of very tiny parts which, if lost will render the switch useless and you will have no AC.
Clean all, re-assemble, fit in facia plate, connect facia and put back in to CCU.
It's not a difficult job, I may have made it sound harder than it is.
Hi all,
Cabin temperature has been erratic in my 1995 993C4, so i took the CCU out to give it a clean.
I measured the resistance of the 2 sliders controls. Resistance goes from 0 ohm (one extreme position) to 2.3kohms (the opposite extreme position), and goes up to 3.3kohms in around the middle position..
I got similar readings for the 2 sliders as well as for the turn pot (temperature and fan speed control).
Not sure about the pots, but are you sure the fan for the air sensor is working properly? I was getting erratic cabin temps. I put a piece of paper over the sensor, and it fell down. Which told me the fan was not drawing air in over the sensor. After cleaning the fan and sensor, all has been normal for a couple of months.
Appreciate the info -- part # 944 653 921 00 @ $196.85 is, according to my local Porsche dealer, the recirc and defroster switch for the CCU.
FYI part # 944 653 922 00 $107.38 is the single a/c switch [with a single snowflake logo] for CCU's prior to the 993. Don't know if it will work ok on the 993 CCU.
Are you using part # 944 653 921 00 in place of the CCU a/c double switch? If so does it work as the original with 2 speeds.
