I'm building a 20x27 garage on my house. It will only have 8'celings
I'm looking at a MaxJax, which I've used a lot at a buddies house and like, or a scissor lift. I like the installation of a scissor lift better.
However, Here's some questions for those that have the scissor lift:
1. Does it allow access to the entire center tunnel?
2. How about the little "wing panels" on the front of the tunnel?
3. Could you do an engine and gearbox drop without interference?
4. Are there any 993 or Porsche specific problems associated with the crossbars?

Here are a couple links that may be helpful. I installed an RS short shift and RS shift rod in my 993, using the Bend-Pak MD6-XP. The center tunnel access is certainly not like using a 2-post like the MaxJax, but it's definitely possible.

Too bad you cannot squeeze another 2' in the lift area - I found (before I raised the roof) that its workable with a shorted two post lift if the ceilings are 10' or higher. Mine were 10' 6", and I could work almost upright under the car, and I am 6'.

While I like scissor lifts, I would find them too low for my height.

If there is a crawl space above the ceiling you may want to consider framing in an extended height area for the just the car's roof line and reinforce the three or four ceiling joists that will be broached in the process.
Seems that this would be a minimally invasive solution to gain an extra foot of ceiling height where you need it without a major redesign.
I suspect such a modification could be done on a Saturday once the structure is complete - no biggie.
Just reinforce before you cut through the ceiling joists.

Unfortunately, that would require re-working the entire front of my house...~$20,000. I've used the MAxJax to drop the engine with an 8' celing and it works fine. I'm kinda liking the bendpak with the removable bar mod though...

I take it the 27 feet is the depth and not width of the garage. If so, make sure your car and lift are in the forward half of the garage in case you forget and swing the garage door up...right into the back side of your 993. That or put locks in place while the car is on the lift.

Either lift, MaxJax or scissors goes to 45"/48". The 993 being roughly 51" tall, watch that ceiling!

Since you are, why not take it that extra step and sink your scissors lift as some on RL have done. It avoids having to drive up on ramps all the time.

I have vaulted ceiling in my garage, w the atlas TD6MR I feel like there is plenty of room. Even if you had an 8' restriction.

It also would appear that if u put the car on the "truck stands" there would be enough room to drop the engine and transmission. I don't know for sure but just eye balling. At max height w no ceilings there's plenty of room to roll around sitting on a stool under the car. I was able to easily do golden rod w the car on truck stands on the lift.

The best things about the scissor style (to me) is it's versatility w moving it. I have a two car garage and I can configure it several ways to keep the pcar in its serviced /lifted position and still park another car in there. Or have the lift collapsed keep it stored, out of sight and out of the way under the pcar and use the garage normally as well.

I move the lift frequently and this feature alone is very valuable esp if ur tight on space. The Max jack has its advantages but I'm glad I picked the scissor. Also ur life riding on those bolts is a little unnerving unless you installed them like Alex did

Got to shop the price a little, but I like that...
My garage will be 20 deep, by 27 wide. Weird I know, but I live in the urban core, and had to get a variance for the setbacks as is. Im going to have a 16 door, and a 9x20 shop area on the far end of the rectangle...
Lift will go in the bay closest to the shop area. I'm going to talk to my concrete guy about the dropped floor as the slab isn't poored yet.
