New Battery recommendation '96 C4S
Hi all,
For those of you who recently replaced a battery in your 993, which did you choose and why? I'm open to suggestions.
Some research pointed to an Interstate model that appears to have been discontinued.
Thanks in advance.

I had an Interstate that came with my 96 C4S. I just replaced it after 8.5 years. It hadn't gone dead, in fact it was working perfectly, but my car was in the shop anyway, and I figured it was probably due, so I replaced it as a preventive measure.
Can't get much better than that, in my opinion.

I just put an Everstart Maxx H6 in my friends because the warranty is awesome. Also have the Everstart in my CS.

I put in an Interstate MTP-91 (700 CCA / 875 CA) in my 993 when I bought it which lasted me 7 years. I live in a mild environment (southern CA) but I abused the battery a bit - i.e. I let it drain a bit and did not charge it right away. I also had a trickle charger but did not use it much.
A few months back I was due another battery. This time I decided to go to East Penn Manufacturing (who made Porsche's original battery). I decided to go with a East Penn (aka Deka) 648MF, which is really a direct replacement for the Porsche 993 battery. But they are hard to come by out on west coast.
Then I discovered that Deka is selling their battery under the name of Duracell (SLI48H6). So I bought a SLI-48H6M since I wanted to stick with a lead-acid (AGM batteries are a bit more expensive) and the SLI-48H6M has even more CCA and CA than the standard replacement at 730 CCA and 895 CA and only weighted a 1/2 pound more than the SLI48H6. Found one at Batteries Plus for $135. You can search for a supplier near you from their website: http://www.dekabatteries.com
Here are two images of battery (notice I took positive terminal cover off Interstate battery and put it on this one). I was told you didn't need a cover but I'm old school, so I made it work.

My experience is the same as goofballdeluxe. Had an Interstate for ~8 yrs that came with the car when I bought it; it was still doing fine but I replaced it as a preventative measure. If you get the MTP-91, be sure to ask for the vent kit as well.

Interstate here as well. I have used them in all my cars for years and years and they are really hard to beat in terms of durability, availability and warranty. The last one I bought was for my 993tt at it came from my local Firestone Auto Care Center. It was somewhere around $110 out the door.

I have an Interstate (with vent kit of course) for about 5 years myself. I'd consider going to a little more lightweight battery next time (like Odyssey). I also have my car on battery tender when I know I'm not going to be driving it for a while.
