Default Steering Vibration

When I make a left turn I feel a vibration through the steering wheel - kind of like a thumping feel, but not audible. It does not happen when straight or on right turns and starts at about a quarter turn of the wheel to the left. I am going to be under the car this weekend doing other stuff and was wondering if anyone had an idea of what it might be or where to start looking.

First thought that comes to mind is control arm bushings. At 46k mine were shot.

I do not think it is the bushings as I had them done about two years ago. I also had bearings done two years ago but I will check them both with the car in the air.

I am wondering if it is a tie-rod or the rack (I really hope it is not the rack).

Tires...has to be. Steering rack? Not a chance.

Tie Rod - those are the symptoms I felt when I had a bad tie rod. and I replaced both tie rods; of course an alignment is then required.

How old are your tires?...just went through this, looked at everything and then looked at age of tires. Replaced them and no more problem.

I do not think it is the tires as I feel the same vibration on my street tires and both sets of track tires (three sets of wheels).

Have you gone under the car and inspected all the moving parts, ie. loose ball joints, bearings, etc?

Did you resolve the issue? My 987.2 has same symptoms. Dealer could not find fault with suspension. I plan to rebalance the MSS tires to see if this helps.

I am no technician, not by any means, but I've noticed at times, when tires go out of balance slightly, that I would sometimes get get a shimmy (thumping feel, as you describe it) in sweeper turns. Then, it would sometimes go away for a bit as the road straightens out. The phenomena would be erratic. Solution? Tire rebalance. I think there is also a chance a steel belt could be damaged, but that has never happened to me.

My steering wheel starts vibrating noticeably whenever I past 2:30 on the speedo...I had my bushings changed to elephant racing sports/hardness about 20k miles ago, also tires are Michelin PSS w about 10k miles....

vibration only occurs if I go past 2:30 on the speedo....is this some kind of warning that I'm nearing the car's limit?....anyone have this happen before and what are possible causes please?

thanks in advance...
