Official Tie Rod Pinning Tool Wait List Thread
#107
I see the following names as still interested:
Initial from Oct 2013
Marcus Jan 2014
Quag Mar 10, 2014
Esses times 2...Mar 10, 11 2014
Eichlerman Mar 10 2014
Eichlerman. seems silly to mail this to NY if you are in Cali. Esses and the others seem to want it pretty badly....let me know if you want it first, and will turn it around fast...

Dave,
My pleasure. I'm sure we'll talk and get together for other Porsche projects. We need to change those front control arm bushings before long.
How's the steering with the new pins? Notice a difference?

I have the tool and am finished with the pinning job. Looks like Eichlerman (Mar 10 2014) is next on the list - still correct? Please send PM with your address.

Did the mod yesterday. Takes about 10 minutes! I noticed a difference on the first 30 MPH corner, and really noticed it on a 60MPH cloverleaf. AS the car takes a set on turn in, a little steering correction used to be required as the tie rod rubber compressed. No more. Now I turn in and the car stays exactly where I put it. It feels really precise. Love it. I noticed no increase in NVH, and the car isn't twitchy at all. In fact, the on-center feel is the same as before...
Is this a "must have" mod? No. Is this a good, nice to have mod? Absolutely!
It makes me wonder what the guys in Stuttgart were trying to dial out of the car to design this tie rod system.
So, I'm sending a PM to ikorum, and I think the list looks like this now:
lcorkum
initial
simpsoap
nine9six
nrubenstein
I'll mail it Monday!

I'm thinking that if you noticed that much of a change in steering inputs, there may very well have been other issues at play here.
Perhaps an alignment and corner balance by a reputable alignment shop that specializes Porsche, might be well advised.

10 mins to install? INCREDIBLE!

Have you done the tie rod mod? I'd say the opposite; if you don't notice a difference in turn in response, there is something wrong.

Pinning Tool Status
Just received the tool today - Thanks.
I thought I would provide the current status of the tool that has been traveling the country. With care I expect the tool is still usable but I have some observations. The tool has only one usable wing thumbscrew. Two are missing and one is severely bent. I bet one is good enough but two would be better. The bent one will cause thread damage if tightened. If time permits I will try to find new ones. Also the bushing is severely worn. For a roll-pin hole you don't need much accuracy but we are working on Porsche's. I expect if you keep the drill steady and firm when you start the hole the current bushing is adequate to keep the drill perpendicular to the tie rod. Rocking the drill motor will result in a larger and cone shaped hole. If possible somebody down the list should plan on pushing in a new bushing.
