I have seen a European '95 X51 993 C2 car which had the 300bhp non varioram engine.....So this is obviously not the 993RS engine, I assume it is probably the same engine as used in the 964 3.8RS (not the higher output 964 RSR).
The engine code is M64.05R with a higher than RS torque of 365 Nm
recognizable with this sticker or engine number engraved

The very first post in this topic string by Geolab described your engine. Basically an M64/05 '94-'95 3.6 taken out to 3.8 L. with RS cams and single belt fan drive on a single plane intake. This is the first generation X51 rated at 285 HP.
The second generation of the 993 X51 was based on the Varioram intake and was more comprehensive with cylinder head, muffler, etc. modifications as well. This engine is rated at 300 HP.
Both X51's were available as retrofit kit or installation during regular production.
The 964 3.8 RS engine had a single plane intake with individual throttle bodies and was almost a totally different engine than 993.
Hi guys, perhaps I'm going a little OT,but it's still an X51 we are talking about….
anyway, feel free to move this wherever you like,
but today I finished my path to sound perfection of my COZZA.
More than 2 years of tests, search, change(all OEM parts, but the 200 cell CAT),study of materials resonance etc(tested SS,titanium,alluminium,ended-up with brass in the mufflers)
are there,by any chance, anybody that has the TECHNICAL INFO about the X51 on M64/21(like the one in Geo post #28)?
It will help to find the differences between the pre VR and VR labor/engine spec.
I'll share the one for M64/05 ASAP.
And another request,Geo could you share the fact-sheet of you post #22?
This is hidden, but looks so interesting.
Thanks everybody and hope your year started better than mine!!!
In the continuos search of information,
I finally got my hands on an old french magazine that made few comparisons between:
std C2S 3600cc
std C4S 3600cc
C4S X51 3800cc
The C2S X51 pulled-back at the end so we missed this opportunity…..
Anyway now you could have an idea of what this "sole"15 hp means in torque way
In the youtube video above it looks like your car has the original 993 rs sound.
I recently got a 993 c2 x51 P.VRAM (1995) myself, I am very interested in this sound.
At the moment I got the original exhaust system of which the mufflers are modified(rsr)
Could you inform me what I should get changed to achieve the same sound as yours?
Below is post I made elsewhere and is germane here. These are the Tequipment pages describing the kits.
The instructions for installing the M64.05/06 kit were posted by Geolab in the first post on this thread and I believe is what 01coccobet has installed. Note that the DME is not changed in this kit.
The M64.05/06 kit is just 102mm pistons and cylinders + RS cams + RS fan drive with or without A/C and is rated at 210 KW (282 HP)
The M64.21 kit is all of the above plus RS cylinder heads and valves + RS mufflers+ "X50" (a typo?) DME unit and is rated at 221 KW (296 HP)
Note that the pistons and cylinders used in these kits are NOT 993.103.915.42 RS 102 mm units but the 993.103.915.70 "slip fit" cylinders that go into a non-RS Crankcase. The RS Crankcase has a larger cylinder spigot bore and does not use an "O" Ring under the cylinder but instead an "O" Ring inside the cylinder spigot.
Congrats FMD,
X51 is a great choice...my favourite.
Could you please send my some pictures of your car, included the one of the sticker, I am collecting and storing all the x51 still alive in the world(not many actually, and none that I know officially in USA).
Thank you for your interest.
I start saying that engine MUSIC taste is something personal.
It took me 2 years to find the right set up.
I ended up with completely modified mufflers starting from RSR Carnewall.
I used the info/experience/test of an ARROW engineer to help me out......
he was exhausted by my picky taste opps.
The final tubes now are straight (in the wide bodied 993 the final tube are like an S)
Inside I used 2 half curves of 0,8mm thick brass,1 short straight with little holes and no sound absorbing material.
Of course I fitted BIG ovals Bishoff with no connecting set (more for a visual effect, I like them really tight to the end of the rear bumper)
I installed a 200 cell cat on the exhaust.
On the intake I used the M159 motorsound option cover, std air filter.
Let me know if you need more info.
Actually send me a video of your actual situation, I built some experience on that side (listening and understanding which way to go)ah ah ah
