Drifting
It looks like 993.618.124.81 is the same control unit, but for vehicles with Tiptronic transmission with Immobilizer. This control unit is only listed in the Tequipment catalog (I'm assuming because you couldn't get an RS with a Tiptronic).

The original discussion here related to X51 engines that were based on the M64 05/06 1995 engine without Varioram. A less comprehensive kit with only 3.8 cylinders, RS cams and a single fan belt drive that used the stock '95 DME.
I thought you were talking about one of these '95 X51 kits until you gave the part number on your DME. Your X51 is a more comprehensive kit for the M64 20/21 Varioram engine comprising the above, plus larger valves and ports, different mufflers, and some other bits - basically converts the engine into an RS spec. with a different diameter crankcase spigot and an aluminum instead of magnesium intake manifold.

That's why I still try to collect info about that,
not much info and a lot of confusion,even in the Porsche Center...
my stickers has X51 on it and the PC doesn't even know which DME ECU it fits or has to order(nothing comes out) I had to look at it pesonally
really funny
and another thing is about the total number of C4S built(somewhere around 200 worldwide,but no official number,no Porsche AG,Classic,total911,flatsix,freisinger,P Italy ecc,only partial number like less than 10 in Italy)
Geo has confirmed that there's a special 993 in Italy,R engine 3600 non VR 300cv,short geared.
I saw it few years ago I saw an ad,but didn't have a chance to test it....interesting
really special,even when it's time to change something....

Out of curiosity, what is your engine's serial number as well as your chassis build date?
The reason I ask is I am wondering if the engine type is an M64/20 with an S series (1995) number. It would be stamped in the range M64/20 63S0001...99999
This may make sense if the chassis is a late 1995 production and Porsche started with the next generation 1996 engine type for the X51 conversion.

sorry for the delay,
got a new temporary job....and this is of priority 1,right now.
My eng is an m64/21(without the suffix S,because it's an X51 option) with all the mod.
but everytime I go to the dealer for the regular maintenance,in the invoice,where the engine code is appearing related to the VIN #,it states M64/21S.
I could post a picture of it,if you want.
Cupcar,do you have any clues for the total number of C4S built with X51?

Your job is more important than your Porsche??? Wow!!
The "S" I am talking about does not relate to the X51 but the model year of the engine.
The M64/21 engines were introduced in the 1996 model year and a European car with a manual transmission would have a serial number in the form 63T 00001...20000 with M64/21 also stamped on the crankcase.
The engine serial number breaks down as:
6= 6 cylinders
3= Normally aspirated 993
S = Model year 1995
T= Model year 1996
00001....20000 = range for manual transmission cars.
Of note is that the 1995 engine serial numbers begin at 00501 - could the first 500 numbers have been reserved for special variants???
So, if your crankcase were stamped M64/21 with a serial number in the range 63S 00000 to 00500 that would be very interesting.
Maybe Porsche has a searchable data base that could sort out the M64/21 engine in an S series chassis, the S here is in the 10th digit of the VIN to show model year 1995. There used to be people like Jurgen Barth at Porsche who responded to letters about such questions regarding special performance models. But those were the olden days.

being an Alitalia airline pilot this days,put me in a very uncomfortable position.
Need new challange,new country and new company.
BTW it's very interesting what you wrote.
I never checked my engine serial number,because it's very difficult to reach and read,
but now you make me very curious about that.
I'll tell you ASAP.
I love the old days when privacy wasn't an issue,
but now,with the web is kind of easier to collect info from all sources.
Do you know if the engine serial number could be written somewhere in the invoices?
Best regards
