Peter,
I'm assuming you mean you changed out the plastic/rubber piece above the cooling fan, right?
Sounds like you are hearing the engine auxillary cooling fan, perhaps? It will run occasionally, most obviously just after you shut down the engine. After a few minutes it will turn on for a short time to help cool the engine when its off. Is this what you are hearing?

Cheers,
Keith

The rear fan has two purposes, help pushing heated air to the cabin and to cool the engine when no heat is required in the cabin. Details on the operation is explained on my DIY website: www.porschehvac.bergvill.com

Maybe you have a defective rear duct temperature sensor. This is the one that makes the CCU able to control the cooling function of the rear fan. You could use a Porsche OBD tool to check the sensor value.

The rear fan shall run at low speed (40-45degC) and high(62-57degC) when ignition is ON and mixer valves are closed. (minimum heat setting) At igntion OFF, the fan run in low speed if the air duct temperature is above 75degC, and shall stop when below 70degC.
Cheers,
Tore
