Sport Seats for 993?

I checked with autos international and they do not weld. Left a message for autobahn but have not heard back from them? I called Byron (really nice guy, BTW) from Finishline Interiors in San Jose and the cost of reupholstering a set of '80s Carrera sport seats to 993 stitching pattern is around $2500. If you have regular seats and want to convert them, he prefers to order OEM frames and not weld. I seem to remember a fellow Rennlister (in europe?) back in 2010 that documented his conversion of comfort seats to sport seats. Can't seem to find the thread now. Anyone else remember reading that thread?
Is there a large interest in these seats? Group conversion?

I'll be interested to see what Tony at Autobahn has to say .. he told me he'd converted a few standard sets to softback sportseats and had no problem with it. Also, Paul Champagne down by Chorpus Christi in Texas does hardback conversions as well .. somebody here had a pair done recently by him IIRC.

Hi
If you are reasonably slim the old style softback sports seats are really good. Mych better than the comfort version IMHO, especially in a car that is otherwise agressive looking.
Here are mine

They are $1450 a set and I just wonder how they compare.

Actually the seat covers from GAHH are $2018 for sport seats. Has anyone used these guys?

IMHO, the leather quality and color is as good as OEM no question. The key is to get a very good installer. Mine was local and he did a pretty good job. I didn't replace the padding on the driver's side and in retrospect I should have because it deteriorates. I'll probably order the padding and have it redone.

Thanks. I was going to try and do the install myself (if I end up going this way. I would obviously have new upper padding but may need to look into the lower as well. Thanks for the info!

I had Hardbacks in my 993TT and they weren't all they're made out to be. The Sport seats I had in my 1989 930 was far more supportive. Of course the 993 Hardbacks are cool looking and everyone wants them but they're completely over rated in my opinion...
