Default Another check your vram thread

My car has been running great but has felt a bit flat at the top end so I had it dynoed on a Dynapack to investigate a bit

the first runs showed a very strong bottom end 17 to 30 lb-ft more than an RS cam 3.6 from 2500 - 4500 rpm, but down 10 - 34 lb-ft from 6 - 6800rpm

rectify the vram situation and torque from 5800 -6 800 is up 30 - 45 lb-ft and at all point above the 3.6 by 20 - 50 lb-ft.

Who says the 102mm p/c sets aren't worth it

What were the final hp and torque numbers? I have this engine but will likely never get it dynoed due to the AWD.

Bill / Chris M -

I too would be interested in the torque figures of the 3.8l displacement version motor. IIRC the 3.8l 993 I drove up and down the A5 autobahn to Basel was performance top heavy; 3K or so to 3.5k rpm and varoom to redline. Come to think of it, that 3.8l 993 car most likey had gearing work to boot; it was a factory owned car.

Gotta say I'm lost with the 102mm p/c set definition? Probably one of the many secret Rennlist hand shakes...... 993 piston's ?? .....

Yes, it sounds like your saying something in your Vram system was somehow restricting the full potential of the 3.8 p/c upgrade. Was there some restriction in there causing the decrease in hp/torque?

I'm sure Bill chime in here but I think what he's referring to are the vacuum modules that operate the v-ram valves. They fail with time and no longer give the full effect of the tuned intake. There's three of them, one on each bank of intake manifolds and one underneath. The replacements look to be a silicone based material so maybe they'll last longer. Changed all mine when I got the car.

^^^ Hm ... how long do they last? Your car is fairly low miles IIRC ...

The Varioram intake was tried on the yellow car by Kim, and it didn't really matter.

As the car came to me, on Steve's dyno, the 3.8L measured 318HP @ 6200/293 lb.ft. @ 5600 (good exhaust)/301HP @ 6000/281 lb.ft. @ 5200 (cat + stock mufflers). But remember this engine was built for longevity. 3-4 of my friends have 350-380HP (or more?) sprint 3.8s that need to be tended to every 20-30 hours of use.

Oh, and as I've said before, the stock exhaust matters to the extent of ~2MPH (127 v. 125) up the front straight at Thunderhill, and less than one second of lap time.

I had another vacuum leak, this one was up under the dashboard for ccu, it was costing 45 lb-ft @ 6800rpm

Solution: dedicated vac to ccu and a separate dedicated vac supply to the vram cans and a new checkvalve

I agree, vram is more of a street thing, it's too complicated and prone to vac leaks, One option I have is to swap the intakes on my 2 cars, but that means 2 new chips as well and Steve Wong nailed it w/ both of the chips I have now.
