How can 993 owners NOT drive their cars often?

Probably 3 reasons I don't drive mine as much as I would like; 1) My commute to and from work is a wopping 3 miles each way. My car doesn't even get warm before I would park it and leave it for 8+ hrs each day. 3 miles of driving pleasure is not worth 8 hrs of sitting in a parking lot where it sits out in the weather and will more than likely get a few door dings. 2) As others have stated, teenage kids that don't fit in the back make it tought to drive when more than 2 of us go out. 3) Winter weather keeps it put away for the winters. So when a few days, weeks, or more goes by that I don't get to drive it, absence make the heart grow fonder. I love the car that much more when I get it out for a nice long drive.

I forgot about kids but since I'm in my 20s and not even close to having them but definitely a good point. When I grew up my dad didn't have a sports car but if he would have, I would have loved to just sit in the passenger seat and be driven around
I also get the multiple cars thing; I would like to pick up a pre-smog 911 within a year or two so once that happens the mileage will be halved.
Seeing as how my 993 has over 170k miles I'm not really worried about the "investment" aspect of it or putting on more miles. I'm generally not the type of person that would buy a car as an investment, first and foremost it's about the joy that it brings and for me, that means the driving experience. If you can afford to buy and just look at cars I guess it's something else. Having a car that won't depreciate or will depreciate only a bit also helps.
I live in LA and traffic here is always a problem, as are dings in parking lots, etc. I guess it's inevitable for the most part but it doesn't really phase me too much. If people can do a full restoration on a 1950s rust bucket then they can do the same on a 911 in 20 years. I guess if I had a low mileage car that was absolutely pristine things would be a bit different!

I DD mine - it's my only car. I park it in a covered, secure parking garage for 12-18 hours a day while I work, but I park it at the far end of the highest covered level, with the passenger side against a pillar; I've never had anyone park next to me (as far as I know - the building, and therefore the deck, are far from full),but if they did, they would have to have a (negligent) passenger to inflict a door ding.
I am more careful when parking it elsewhere, of course.

Pretty much what Ken said unfortunately. I go to car events with it but driving it locally doesn't make much sense, not much fun stuck on the freeway with all the idiots around here. Feel like too much of a moving target.

My story is...
I bought mine in 2005 with 26,500 miles on it. I drove it all over the place, long drives, some track days, etc. It now has 96,750 miles and I don't drive it much. I don't really want to pass 100,000 for some strange reason. I guess I feel if I need to sell it, I might get more if it is under 100k. Doesn't help that I haven't been able to find work for the last few months...
But the 993 still looks brand new, and drives even better than when I bought it!

I don't purposely not drive my C2S, but between work and having two other sports cars plus my Land Rover and another "daily driver", it's sometimes hard to rack up the miles. When I used to race in SCCA, that cut down on driving it even more as that took every spare minute.
Every Spring I promise to do better.
Cheers.

I drive mine daily and park responsibly. I have two other cars that are garage queens, but I learned some time ago that these cars are meant to be enjoyed. Those 2 cars get driven at least weekly. Just driving to work in the 993 makes the day brighter. I say unless you plan to sell it...drive it. heck most of us are super **** about the upkeep so they will last forever anyways...you bought it..it is yours do what u like!

My kids' school is 1 mile from the house and work is less than a mile from the school so my entire daily commuting area is tiny. Also, I've never liked the idea of driving a 911 daily. It's not a question of reliability or putting on too many miles (already have a ton), but I just think it would become less special if I drove it every single day unless I had a longer more fun commute.
I like to take it out on the weekends for the purpose of going for a drive. I'm also off on Mondays so if I get a chance to go for a drive I sometimes pick the kids up at school afterwards which they love.
At the other end of the spectrum, I have never understood the idea of trying to not put miles on a car. When I read about some of the cars (or better yet, see it in their signatures) on here with really low miles I just cringe.

5 years owning 993's, driven about 90kmi!!!
I drive'em!
Seriously, my C4S was purchased with 36kmi, and in 3 months it had 40kmi, and I had to really try hard to leave it in the garage!!!
