How can 993 owners NOT drive their cars often?
So obviously I'm fairly new to this forum but since I've had my 993 I've driven it quite often and always want an excuse to drive it somewhere. Furthermore, I've had numerous occasions when I arrive home but instead of pulling in I just keep going and drive more This being a 993 forum I don't have to explain why!
Before I bought mine I chatted with an owner for a bit and he told me he only drove his about 800 miles a year! I understand some of you live in places with snow, others have multiple fun cars, others are gone for work, etc.
However, is there anybody on this forum that purposely does not drive their car a lot? If so, what is your reasoning? Not trying to put anybody down, just curious

I have no idea on this issue. In my view, the magical thing about Porsches is their usability and durability as everyday cars. I'm sure if I had a 1994 Maserati or Ferrari I'd be afraid to drive it every day.

The issue for many of us car fanatics is that a 993 is often not the only P-car in the garage, not to mention the other cars us nuts like as well...
If you added up the total mileage I put on all my P-cars I would look like the consummate driver, just the mileage on one, I might look like a mere polisher and not a driver...
Sadly my DD and my Dodge Cummins trailer puller see more mileage in a month than all the other toys do put together in five years...

I try to not drive my 993 too often. For some "sick" reason, I have a concern about adding on too many miles. Truth be told, I can't do it. I end up driving it as much as I can. I bought it in TX and drove it to WI. That hooked me. I drive it as much as I can. Wife enjoys it as much as I (shocking because a vehicle to her is just a means to get from point A to point B). Last year we drive to UT for the Porsche Parade, this year - who knows?

It's a horrible, horrible world out there full of careless drivers who can run into you, put door dings on your car, throw up rocks that chip your paint, make you nervous whether they will rear-end you while talking on their cell phone. It makes me cringe what can happen to a freshly waxed, pristine-993-that-is-increasing-in-value-by-the-day out there in the jungle.
But then again, driving the 993 even to work and back makes my dull day so much better. I nearly died of boredom having to drive a regular car to work for a week.

On a side note a woman at work asked me the other day where she can go to have air put in her tires because her warning light came on (she drives a brand new Mercedes coupe.) And from the way she said it I could tell she didn't mean where can she find a station with an air pump, she meant how does she go about doing it. She had no idea. Another woman said "go to the Goodyear store and they will do it for you". Seriously, after more than 35 years of driving is it possible neither one has ever put air in her tires or seen her husband do it?

Similar to my thread I posted before Christmas.
For me, it's mostly one of those reasons noted in the original post. I need my truck nearly 100% of the time when I'm working. Which is pretty much every day. And when not, we're traveling.
The other thing though is burnout. 34th year now with 911s. No mystique or magic anymore on public roads. When you consider you're driving your most aggressive on the street at about the same pace as what you drive the pickup on the track dropping the apex cones first thing before the driver's meeting, once you get past the enjoyment of the cockpit and controls of a 911 it's pretty much point A-to-B driving. In the US, anyway.

I'm with Ken. I only really like to drive mine when driving is the focus. I don't track it - but I take it to Colorado in the summer and do some drives in the Ozarks a couple of times a year. Otherwise, the roads around here are terrible and downright dangerous in this car.
Driving it around town (I live in the city) is no fun with 500 hp. And the dangers of parking lots, SUVs, etc too big. Even driving it to dinner isn't feasible as I won't let a Valet touch it.
So there! But I am not scared of miles. I put 3k a year on mine.
