Default How to change battery...

Tried search function w/o much success...

To change battery I'd need to remove the spare. Problem is there is a flap in the front inside the hood that protrudes out thus hindering the spare's removal.

Is there a trick to get the spare out so I can get to the battery?

wait, what?

what is this protruding flap you speak of?

spare should lift out without an issue.

What flap? There is plenty of room to remove the spare tire.

It should look like this...

Dude,

I think the "flap" your talking about is the lower part of that front plastic trim piece - that covers the front of the trunk area. The spare has to be kind of angled out from the back to get it to clear this trim piece. Lift up the spare, raise the back up towards the gas tank and it should angle to clear ok. It is a bit awkward to remove.

Its been a long time since I've had the spare out, but doesn't it lift out by the front? The gas tank protrudes out as seen in my pic.

I may have had the trim out which is easily removed.

I think I know what you are talking about - silver colored plastic tab with the car's VIN number at the 12 o'clock position on the tire? That's what I have on my C4S. You can still shimmy the wheel/tire past the tab and the battery by pulling up from the 7-8 o'clock position. That works for me anyway.

Thanks, Rudy.

Pardon my clumsy expression, the 'flap' is indeed the plastic tab w/ the VIN.

Wiggling the spare at the 7-8 o'clock position did get it out.

Thanks again for the help.

I suppose I should make up another screen name for dumb questions...

Anyhow, with the spare removed I discovered 3 holes on the floor pan. Question is why? One is necessary for the battery vent hole. But wouldn't water easily seeps in when driving in the rain.

Do you folks recommend taping off the 2 holes and making a better fitting for the vent tube w/o the slack?

There are rubber things that fit in those holes. Don't tape over them.

The battery should have a vent tube that routes up through the fender.

Concern is when driving thru' heavy rain or puddles of water, some would likely be sprayed inside and start rotting things away. No?

no, buy the correct grommets and don't worry about it.
