Spoiler control module clicking sound and noisey transmission question
So my spoiler stopped working then mechanic fixed a loose connection and it started working again. Lately I get the noise of it folding down when I stop. What I haven't read about on any of the preivous posts is a clicking sound coming from the control module in the passenger footwell.
Could be I just never noticed it in the few weeks that I have had the car but...
I read that the modules themselves rarely fault so I am wondering what is going on.
I think I will try the bearing replacement DIY, doesn't seem that complicated. Might try drilling and shooting the white lithium near the bearing too. Not sure.

Thanks, that helps. One of those "I did not remember that" moments.
I think the bearing upgrade DIY is in my future. Or... What is best way to deactivate that won't trigger the warning light?

I thought the spoiler was needed for engine cooling? (in addition to giving the rearend some downforce) If it is disabled and never comes up, will there be overheating problems or other issues? Just wondering...

Several posts in the thread https://rennlist.com/forums/993-foru...iler-rise.html
I have had the mod for months now with some really aggressive and higher speed driving....no issues with either aero or heating. However I think the aero is improved (less lift generated with spoiler down) if you take the engine pan out.
Would love to hear from others.

I think I have to do this as well - the spoiler is noisy when coming down.
Looks like sealed 635-2RS bearing could be had on eBay for $3. Any gotchas in this DIY? I assume we are talking about: http://p-car.com/diy/spoilerdrive/
Or should I try disassembling and spraying lithium grease around the bearing first? Will any actually get inside or does it have a lube hole?

I live in Georgia...It gets hot as hell here...I unplugged my spoiler module (Under the passenger footwell) and have run for almost three years that way...Based on the engine oil temp gauge readings, there is no noticable difference in engine temps with the spoiler activated or not, even in 90-100 degree weather....I suggest you spend a couple of weeks assessing what the temp gauge does with the spoiler activated, then unplug the module and assess again for two weeks...You're not going to blow your engine up...Just take the time to gather data, then make a decision on your own...If you depend on this board for a decision, you'll still be reading opinions 10 years from now.

It's really not hard to fix these, and as cheap a repair on a 993 as you'll find. Just disabling a spoiler because you have a bad bearing is bad karma, IMO. It's not worth trying to grease it-when they are toast, they are toast.
I don't see how less lift can be generated with a spoiler down??

Karma???
Here's what I think I know. With the engine tray in place the air passing over and under the car produces lift just like an aircraft wing. Ergo the need to "spoil" that faster flow above and reduce lift....just like an aircraft wing. With the tray removed you get disturbed air underneath (and better cooling to the engine BTW) so therefore the spoiler is not as essential.
Again, would love to hear from others on this. I have had great karma and no issues with stability or cooling.

This is my daily driver commuter car so I don't think I have to worry about "lift" etc. I do have to worry about tempature in the summer. My engine tray is still installed but I think I will take it off in the Spring or sooner if I can find some RSR mufflers to install.
