Hilarious! That guy has a deep understanding of dogs' innermost workings! Just brilliant!

There is nothing in this world like the true love of a pet or a child. Both of you were blessed that your paths crossed in this life. May his memory bring you comfort

Sorry for your loss, Ed. Dogs are among the best people I know, which makes it even harder when they leave. Kipling said it well:

Thanks again everyone. It hurts to hear the other tales of loss here. It is obvious, that a lot of us share the love of Porsches and Dogs.

Ed ~ you have a great big wonderful heart. you gave a shelter dog that someone tossed out the best 18 months of his life. not too may people out there are will to take in older dogs, because of the heart break that comes too quickly. You looked past that and found yourself a best friend who's memories will live on in your heart forever. I know it's hard for you right now, especially since you were not at home. Be thankful that Kai went quietly and you didn't have to make 'the decision' that is oh so very hard to make.

BIG HUG from me and a lil hug from Speedster. Speedster just celebrated her 10th Birthday and my wish was that she could go backwards in age. I'm already dreading the day..... Speedsters two best friends in Arizona were labs. There is something about a lab that she just loves, so I know she would have loved playing with Kai. A sweet little woof to you....

I never understood why people got so upset over the loss of a dog.
That was until I found and way to quickly lost Grizzly.

This list was sent to me the day after Grizzly past. It still helps me 7 years later. Maybe it will do the same for you.

10 Things Your Dog Would Tell You

1. My life is likely to last 10 to 15 years. Any separation from you will be painful: remember that before you get me.
2. Give me time to understand what you want of me.
3. Place your trust in me- it is crucial to my well being.
4. Do not be angry at me for long, and do not lock me up as punishment.
5. You have your work, your entertainment, and your friends. I only have you.
6. Talk to me sometimes. Even if I don't understands your words, I understand your voice when it is speaking to me.
7. Be aware that how ever you treat me, I will never forget.
8. Remember before you hit me that I have teeth that could easily hurt you, but I choose not to bite you because I love you.
9. Before you scold me for being uncooperative, obstinate,or lazy, ask yourself if something might be bothering me. Perhaps I might not be getting the right food, or I have been out too long, or my heart is getting to old and weak.
10. Take care of me when I get old; you too will grow old. Go with me on difficult journeys. Never say: "I cannot bear to watch" or "Let it happen in my absence." Everything is easier for me if you are there, even my death.
Remember that I love you.

Thank you.

I'm taxiing to the terminal in San Diego. I'm dreading walking through the door at home...

Ed,

Frankie & Johnny got extra love and attention today in Kai's honor! Yes... that is a steering wheel cover - one of their favorite 'share toys'...

Sorry again for your loss & I hope you find another heartbreaker soon!

Ugh... That makes me feel even more for you Ed, my fear always was that our dog would pass away when I was away (I was lucky and she died on my arms) so reading that this happened to you, I know you're feeling extra bad.

But remember, dogs remember so even though you were not there when he took his last breath, he knew you loved him.

It sucks bad but it will get better, however, you will never, nor should you, forget.

How do you know how special the relationship with Kai was?
From the major pain you have inside, that tells you how special it was.

"We give dogs time we can spare, space we can spare and love we can spare. And in return, dogs give us their all. It's the best deal man has ever made".

Godspeed Kai.

I got my 1st dog 2 1/2 years ago. I could never understand why pepole were "so into" their dogs....until I got mine. He's my lil buddy and I love hanging out with him. I can only imagine the pain that you are going thru right now.

But, the others are right in that his life was better that you were in it and took such great care of him !
