I would rather do a full radio delete than have to look at something like that.

Default "I guess"?????

[QUOTE=Steve 96C4S;9843372]

Yeah, our engines sound great I guess. I prefer the sound of talk radio, or my favorite music cranking out the speakers.

You guess our engines sound great?Do you want to rethink your opinion?

They sound pretty good. Far from the best sounding engines out there.

Difference of opinion bud, settle down.

wow, those rears look like a hack as does the amp floating on the spare.

rear speakers in most cars, are pretty much useless. The correct component speakers up front will deliver proper stereo, will have plenty of volume and present a clear sound stage up front to the driver.

i would not let ANY 12 volt installer, especially one with a walk-in store front, go near my 993. These people are butchering all kinds of cars all day long, and get paid by how fast they can push them out.

oh, and Micro Precision speakers could have mounted in the rear shelf no problem, but why bother.

Call me old fashioned, but when I go to a concert I don't really sit with my back to the stage. Rear speakers are for fill only and are mostly irrelevant in a good system.

Good for you for getting an upgrade that makes you happy!

That said, I'm going to agree that anything other than a little "fill" in the back is a waste, and the shop that did the work didn't do you any favors with the lack of speaker covers and what looks like an unsecured amp in the front.

And for the "haters" who have to diss anyone who gets a non-late 90's look head unit, or put their noses in the air about not wanting to just listen to the engine all the time.... enough already!

I'm going to say that install is cheap looking. They took wood & covered it with carpet? It should at least be covered in vinyl to match the rear deck. The wood was cut a little short it should cover the entire speaker.

If you love the speakers, have them mount the speaker under the rear shelf, then modify the stock grill to fit over it. That is the proper way to install something like that. If they can't do that. Have them recut the wood base, fit the speaker INSIDE the wood, so it flush, then cover it in vinyl, or add a 4x6 grill.

Default UPDATE - 11.5.12

My car's been in the shop getting the A/C fixed for 5 weeks and I just got it back, so I set an appt to have the rear speakers made more pleasantly appealing at the car stereo shop. This is my more stealthy than the set up I posted earlier in this thread. He was able to redo it keeping the same speaker but using the stock grill cover that comes with the car.

MUCH better looking install now. It took him 2+ hours to do this today and they didn't charge me anything. I'm happy... hopefully you guys will give this a slight thumbs up compared to what I had!

The initial mess:

This took a LONG time...

1 finished and installed speaker

Lightyears better than before

Read to roll back down the road...

Sounds frickin' awesome, too. So glad I did this.

+1. First order of business after I bought my car was to get rid of the ballast/amp in the trunk and the hideous aftermarket unit. I installed a $55 CR-220 (it has a built-in amp) including iPod connection for the very rare occasion I listen to music in the car.

BTW, to the OP, having the stock speaker covers on the rear shelf looks a lot better.

OP: good on you to get the audio shop to clean up their initial hack job.

I just redid my whole sound system as well, but added a 10" sub to give a little extra bass. I might go back and "downgrade" to an 8" or maybe even a couple 6" subs in a band pass box. Not so young anymore and not really trying to impress the neighborhood girls :P

Very nice job, congrats.

Don't get bothered by these **** retentive RL's that have no other life then to know better, critique more and be always speaking up about anything and everything that could, should and would do different. 993 or anything else related.

Its your car, you live with and enjoy the s*** out of it.
Kudos, don't for not letting these RL grannies ruin YOUR ride !
I love NPR too and these stock audio sucks, I agree !
