Buy An Ex Victory Car?
I've run into a serious dilemma on a red 97 C2 I was looking at in the Portland, OR area and looking for some input.
The car looks great, is well optioned, and the owner seems to have taken care of it. He has agreed to a PPI at a location of my choosing. It has a clean Carfax. However, in the course of trading notes, I found out he purchased the car from Victory two years ago. Reading all the horror stories about Victory has made me take a step back and revisit my decision to purchase the car.
I have no reason to distrust the seller but in all fairness, I have no reason to trust him either. He says he's selling the car because he doesn't drive it and his knee is giving him fits.
And granted a PPI would likely find major (and some minor) issues but I know they won't find everything. And honestly, purchasing a car on the other side of the country made me a bit nervous to begin with.
What say the group and does anyone know this car? (red 97, tan supple leather, hi fi, 62k miles)

I do not know the car. Victory has good and 'bad' cars. If the car is eactly what you are looking for, do the PPI as suggested to find out in which category it falls. I bought a car in California from Texas and did it exactly what you layed out: after it was interesting enough on paper, I made an offer pending a PPI that I paid. GL.

Granted, Victory is shady, but not everything they touch is crap.
Get a solid PPI from an air-cooled Porsche expert and see how it turns out. If it's good, chances are the car is good.

I bought...well, I prefer to say 'rescued'...my old car from a, "Financing guaranteed, your job is your credit! Most cars under $4995!" type joint (a bit of a story in itself). In the end, you're buying the car, not the dealer. If the car checks out, the car checks out; if the seller is suspect, I'd just be more thorough about said checking out.
