Default Best clutch upgrade? Chime in!!

Hey guys,

Looking for some advice on a clutch upgrade. I have heard about GT3 plates and RS flywheels etc... I am looking for the whole kit. Something very durable.

I track my car a couple of times a year (DE only) so it's maily a street car. I am looking to install this and honestly forget about it for a while.

I have the OEM clutch, but I can now hear a "clinking" when the car is off and I engage the clutch. Not sure what that is, but annoying none the less.

Please help!

If you have the standard flywheel, and are a 96 or above, then go for the standard RS flywheel setup.

If you have a 95, you can either remain withe the DMF or go for a mid-weight flywheel like the Andial.

if you hear a rattle when shutting the car off, it's likely the DMF is getting a bit loose and worn.

Cheers,

Mike

I'd recommend a light weight flywheel for a 95 as well. Some folks with 95s have stalling issues, however, in my experience if the car has no vacuum leaks and the idle control valve is in working order, this should not be an issue. The LWF makes a huge difference in response.

Throw-out bearing?

I'm in the same boat and was contemplating the Andial mid-weight flywheel for my '95 but am now leaning towards sticking with stock for the piece of mind.

FWIW

I went with the lightweight option

http://fdmotorsports.net/993-clutch-kits

I drive it almost daily, backroads and highways, downtown as well. I love it. Its a bit noisy but not at all like I had heard some people say it can be.

You can buy one from Pete at Andial.(714)957-3900
Two parts need to be ordered to make the MWF only. You will also need a Sport Clutch DISC and PP.
1)FlyWh.Assy 964/993 : 110-AND 114 011 00 = $1,037.93
2)7Lbs FlyWh.Modificat : 110-AND 114 011 90 = $376.01
I have not experienced any additional noise. I have an RS Tranny mount and stock engine mounts.

Not at all.Read post number 8. Again, I have stock motor mounts and the G50/32 came with the RS mount already installed.I also have FD SSK with a platinum rod.NOT NOISY AT ALL.One other thing that might contribute to the lack of additional noise is that I used a OE stock PP as opposed to a turbo PP with my MWF clutch setup.Pete at Andial suggested the stock PP for a street driven 993 as the engagement requires no additional effort.

Another vote for RS flywheel and clutch. In combination with a GIAC chip (Steve Weiner) any stalling will be cured. However, there will be the typical rattle at lower RPMs. If this is an issue, go DMF.

I'd go for that as well when the time comes but add that I'd want a well thought out upgrade that "works"; not one that stalls or has idling issues, or that sounds like a Ducati with a dry clutch, etc.

Those annoying issues take away from the so-called "upgrade" part of the equation.

Without raising the idle RPM? I never did get a response back from GIAC when I asked.
