Mike J's 7th Annual pcarworkshop BBQ and Wash-Your-Bottom-Party - August 18th, 2012
I would like to host Mike J's 7th annual shop day this year on Saturday, August 18, 2012.
The theme will be different this year - I would like to host a "wash your bottom" workshop, which means:
Schedule:
8:30 - The shop is open and the first cleaning slot opens. We will put the car on the lift, likely remove the wheels and then let the owner start scrubbing. I am sure there will be a lot of spare hands available to help out as we change cars, and even brave souls helping cleaning the cars.
I would limiting the cleaning on each car to a maximum of 90 minutes unless there are not that many interested registrants - then we can increase the time.
11:30 on - The BBQ will be fired up for lunch depending on the appetites etc (maybe earlier!!)
Afternoon - continuous BS, cleaning, what have you. We can do some light repairs as well, but nothing that needs the lift. We will also setup a wash station beside the garage to cleanup those cars that might get splattered when bottom-cleaning.
5:00 - wrap-up
That gives us SIX slots given some turn-over time.
Directions: Click here for a map to 5691 Bessborough Drive Burnaby, British Columbia
Hopefully the weather will be great! Even it its raining the shop is large enough to have at least two-three cars undercover, and for the guy's washing - the rain is the least of your worries!!
It would be great if those coming would either post or PM me so I have an idea on how much supplies/food we will be needing...
Everyone is invited ; this is a Porsche event, not a 993 only event!!!
Cheers,
Mike
The theme will be different this year - I would like to host a "wash your bottom" workshop, which means:
- I will attempt to rent a steam pressure washer as well as having my own industrial cold water pressure washer - and all users will chip in to pay for that rental. Estimate is about $20/person.
- Everyone registered will have 90 minutes on the lift with the cleaning equipment to basically go nuts on the bottoms of their cars
- Everyone interested in getting a slot please send me a message and I will put together a schedule - let me know what time you are arriving so I know where I can fit you in
- I can supply some cleaning materials but please bring your own
- Bring spare clothes and prepare to get WET if you are working on your car

Yeah, I know I will totally mess up the shop and the alley way, but its OK, most should be dirt with some dissolved oil.
Sorry about the birthday - my daughter just graduated GR12 on the same day as my wife's 50th birthday - that as hectic since we also did the dry-grad afterwards that ran till 5AM!
Cheers,
Mike

Bump.
We have 3 lots taken with some tentatives for the cleaning. If you are coming up, please indicate if you are willing to get wet and clean your car.
Cheers,
Mike

What products are good to use with the cold power wash? I have no experience with such things. I expected those slots to fill up quickly. Still can't quite commit, but things are looking good..

I was planning to rent a hot-water pressure washer for the event - of course I would expect participants to contribute to cover the costs. That gets the crap off much better than cold water.
I have used Xenit - not sure why everyone things its the cat's meow - it was not any more effective than simple green, elbow grease and a lot of water. Maybe my technique is flawed.
Cheers,
Mike

Time for some updated photographs of Dennis, Rob, and the rest of the 993 friends that I see only a couple of times a year! I may have to source an underwater housing for my gear with all the water and degreaser splashing around.
