None yet as I've had too much on my plate to get around to doing so. Sorry!

But I'm looking forward to collecting the data, having been in the metrology standards business for years. Till then I would not make a comment as to whether the engine runs hotter or not with the engine tray on.

This topic has been discussed long before I even got on this forum. Amazingly none has ever produced any hard numbers where a thermocouple was used directly on the cylinder head. I don't put much stock using an optical thermometer from Harbor Freight....kind of hard to look at when in motion under load.

All the best from sunny Italy where the food and wine is great and the roads are twisty.

You guys are going to be sorry when 30 years from now folks are restoring 993s like 356s are being restored today and the engine tray is that last final piece that a restorer needs to make their car concours perfect. They'll bring big money someday!

Quite honestly, I could care less about cylinder temps with or without the tray. Track weekends would be a PITA trying to lift the rear via engine case to change brake pads with the tray installed. And if Steve W ways leave it off, thats good enough for me.

No one ever seems to mention that there is a real risk to engine damage running without an engine tray, especially if your car has been lowered, as mine has.

Running with my engine tray off, my heat exchangers caught on a driveway as I was backing out of a driveway, and tore off and destroyed my left side heat exchanger in the process. This only happened because I was running without an engine tray.

A new heat exchanger will set you back a few hundred bucks. Luckily I found a Rennlister who had an extra one laying around.

Needless to say, I'm running WITH an engine tray now.

BobT993,
That is fantastic.
Just curious, do you run it with the large hole/gap in the back or is a filler piece back there?
Thanks!

Back was screened in during final fitment (you want to separate the engine air flow from the underbody is possible only having them join at the very back at the same pressure/velocity). Helps with attached flow. I am doing some more test on a medium speed track in two weeks while we monitor cyl temp using the motec data. I added several vents and next is two 4inch fans with naca ducts. Headers are SCargo. The entire trays removes in 5mins or less. There are 3 sections all the way to the front splitter.

^^^^^^^^^^ Well, considering you have to run a 1:18 at Summit to be competitive in GTS3 (which is similar hp/wght ratio to PCA H class), you need to start working on aero for GT class and NASA GTS class. This is a long project, but I should have some good racing results near end of the summer. Mark, hope to catch up to you and Jim E at Summit this year.

BTW, where did the factory Porsche team lift the rear of their 993s back in the day...because the owner's manual tells you not to use the engine as a lifting point.

Engine tray in attic.
Transmission section cover disappeared, probably forgotten by a service technician.

How many tens of thousands of times have 911-993's been jacked up from the engine?
