Did you regear your transmission?
Happy fathers day DADS!
I am going to re-gear my gearbox this fall. For those of you who have re-geared your gearboxes, would you mind sharing with me WHAT GEARS YOU HAD CHANGED AND WHAT GEAR SETS (RATIOS) YOU WENT WITH FOR EACH?). Also did you go with steel synchros? iF YOU HAVE A G50/21, G50/31 or a Steve Winer gear box, you Can tell me just THAT-i HAVE THOSE RATIOS WRITTEN DOWN. i WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE THiS INFO GUYS.
Thanks much in advance!

G50/31. Amazing transformation. First is a little tall for the street, but you get used to it. Recommend installing a LWF at the same time. Expensive, but worth every penny. You'll love it!
Cheers,

Man, when I first joined Rennlist. 2004, I think. G50/21's came up for sale frequently. Don't recall there being many 31's available. I've heard great things abouth the 31's.
I really appreciate your input. Thanks!

I can't imagine anyone wanting to sell a g50/31. If someone does, I'd love to pick up another one for my 97

Forgive me, but what does a typical regear cost? Wide range of prices quoted around here (I'm aware that people are often purchasing dissimilar items).

G30/31 and /32's are NLA and while /30's are available on an exchange basis, one must turn in another G50/30 to get a new one.
There are many options available here, however you'll need to build it out of your transmission.

I'm not sure but $9k should be in the ball park. There are some older posts around here somewhere where vendors quoted prices for various options.

Can I ask what ratios you are considering? Bottom line is I love mine and would do it again in a second however I may be inclined to go a little shorter even starting with a 2.25 2nd in lieu of 2.176. For most of my around town shifts that extra little bit is desirable. That said its also the character of the stock motor that's lacking...which now has me dreaming of a no compromise 3.8

As mentioned, a lot of info on this topic if you search, or simply open the threads provided.
To repeat what I posted in the past, I did do a re-gear (vs swapping out a tranny) and used Guard gears/synchros and had a reputable shop (Jerry Woods) do it. Did it 10yrs ago, and it cost me approx $10k back then (including labor, parts, RS LWF, gears, steel synchros, the works). No sure what it would cost today.
Here's what I did:
1st (stock, obviously)
2nd - 2.25
3rd - 1.65
4th - 1.286
5th - 1.040
6th - 0.821 (euro 6th). I actually like this gear a lot - ideal for cruising at 75mph+ with decent RPM range. I would strongly consider this, given the fact that you're already in there.
Steel synchros from 3rd to 6th!
RS LWF (no additional weight added). Mine is a '95 and I have no stalling issues.

Many thanks for your informative replies with links. I did do some searching (trying to be a good rennlist person) but you guys knocked it out of the park with your replies.
Thank you very much.
