Default Hot air out of center vents...

With the temp setting rotated fully to the cold setting, I am getting cool air out of the driver's side vent, however the air out the center vents feels like it is coming directly out of the engine compartment. Is the likely cause a bad blend door? How difficult of a task is this?

I should also note that the AC is not in working order at this time--bad evaporator, which will eventually be on the to-do list. This doesn't bother me so much, but the hot air coming out of the vents is another issue...

TIA!

Brian,
It sounds like the fresh air servo, based on your description, assuming it is relatively warm outside

- AC system not optimal
- Cooler air out of side vents

However, that servo is $$
I would be sure to test before buying the part

Another thought... how does the passenger side vent feel?
If it is also hot, then the passenger side mixing servo is the likely culprit

Typical inert/defective mixer servo scenario. The left mixer servo is stuck in the open position.
Have a look here for details:

Thanks Mark and Tore!

Mark- the passenger side vent is also warm. As far as the outside temp, the air was warm, but not has warm as what was coming through the vent.

To test the servo, I am assuming that the dash will need to come off, right? From what I have read, this doesn't seem to be a terribly difficult task (and being a cab, there is a bit of extra working space!).

You need to remove a plastic cover in the trunk to see/inspect the servos, as well as remove the two carpet walls in the foot wells. A total of 6 screws, easy job.

I have removed the orange tubing connecting the engine to the heater box on the right side of the car in order to stop the 'full on' hot air that was coming out of the passenger right side dash vent...well in fact out of anywhere on the passenger side. Now only 'ambient' air comes out of the passenger dash vent, conditioned air comes out from all other vents.

So I guess, judging from what I have read here, I most likely need a 'passenger side mixing servo', is that correct?

Do I really need to buy the OBD II connector and the special adapter for my '95 OBD I car? Maybe just to confirm it is the servo and not the 'self test' function perhaps failed in the CCV unit?

Everything else to do with the 'climate control unit' seems to work as advertised...

If this servo is located under the passenger carpet floorboard is it possible to change it out without removing the dash?
