Oil return line o-ring question......
I'm curious to know if the o-rings from the oil return line could be reused?
The small oil filter was stuck on really good, so I removed the oil return line to get more access. Unfortunately, no store or dealership around me has the o-rings in stock. Was curious about reusing them so I could finish up the oil change.
Thoughts?

I don't think it would be an issue as its a regular serviced part and wet.. doing on the next change would A best practice - I didn't change on my last and the part looked good.

You will be fine. Some have posted that they have never changed them.
I don't remove the return line when I change the oil. I stopped doing it a couple of years ago.

If you've never replaced them and don't know their age / condition, I'd replace them.

I remove the line - I like to get as much oil out as needed, and its really easy (given I have a lift). I have never seen an oil leak from this O-ring, and have done dozens of oil changes now. I think it's a waste of money to replace the O ring - but I also think its a waste of money to replace the "crush washers". I do it on cars that come in because the owners ask for it, but I rarely do on my own cars, and I have never had a leak because of it.

Hey Mike J.
I don't disagree with the the point you make on getting all of the old oil out. Maybe I am just lazy. I do drain the turbo sumps. I didn't replace the crush washer the last time I drained the turbos and it leaked around the drain plug of one turbo sump! Replaced the drain plug washer and all was well. Never had that happen before.

Removing the oil return line is easy unless previous owners didn't bother removing it and its been in place for years. Then it can take a bit of time to pull the oil return line off. It took me some time to remove mine. I know there is a flat on the line, but pry bars just aren't my style.

They reuse their aluminium sealing rings as well and when the drain plug leaks, they tighten the plug some more. Little wonder they end up using so many thread repair kits.

I know, but don't need to use it since I replace the O-rings at every oil change. Slides right out now.
Actually its the hold-down flange for the oil line and for the bolt, but has been used for other purposes.
