993 New Owner Kit
As I am realizing, there are differences in these cars, things that it needs that other (water cooled and typically newer) cars don't. So, I am putting together what I am calling a new 993 owner "kit".
I have also specialized this new owner kit for Rennlist.
1. Pictures. Forget oil, leakdowns, and ppi results--what you really need are pictures. This avoids the dreaded TPIWWP whipping a new owner post will receive on certain Internet forums--not mentioning any names here.
2. Spare DME Relays to handle these kinds of situations.

3. Heavier weight oil. Seems that many are running 15W40 or 15W50 synthetic particularly to help leak issues. Manual also shows 10W40 for my temp range (mostly >50F). I guess I will run 15W40. Not an oil I had been keeping around, so on the checklist.
4. More pictures. Even crappy cell phone pics will do. See item 1.
5. Spare key fob battery. Akaline A23 12 volts. Why? See item 6.
6. Twisted German Encoded Starting Instruction Sequence. I'm sorry, the highly convenient "Immobilizer" that will indeed immobilize your sorry butt. If your key fob dies and you have no spare battery (See item 5 above) well you better dust off your safecracker skills to figure out the manual's instructions on how to start her. A photographic memory would also help or a copy of your manual's instruction sheet (page 20).
7. Cup holders. Um, sorry, just testing. You have to turn in your 993 card if you put in cup holders IMHO. But if you must do so I found the holy cup holder thread for you.

I am looking for suggestions from the community. I am considering basic maintenance and roadside breakdowns issues that could be solved if I only had X simple part that I can have with me. That kind of thing. Maybe other types of relays and some fuse(s)? I still have much to learn about these cars and will accept your advice even if you do have cup holders in your car.

By the way, I had such an awesome drive this morning in the 993. It is a joy to operate. The more I drive it the more I understand why people call it an analog experience as opposed to the more digital 997 experience that I just gave up.
#5: So I just got a 95 without keyless, but it has the little lights in the key tops which didn't work. So I hit the battery store, replaced the batteries, and they still don't work. Guess the light is burned out.
#7: Age old argument about cup holders. I live in the desert. We take water everywhere. So, I ended up getting one of those single cup holders that hook on to the seat rail (from Pelican). Works great!

The list looks good. I would add some spare belts just in case.
welcome to the RL community and I'll try not to file discrimination charges (being a member of the "Church of cup-holder users"!) Enjoy your new Porsche!!

Mister C, thanks for the reminder about the cup holders. How do you like the one pelican sells, it seems decent and stable. Also, It looks like you have a cage in you're car, brand?

You are welcome. Rennlist has been very helpful and I have lurked too long. Time to write something helpful.
I think the neighbors just think my exhaust went bad or something. I did get a long stare as I pulled out. No burnouts though. Too many speed bumps. I have to drive like a granny to get out of the neighborhood.
I don't know which is worse though. The Supercup or the racing brakes. They SQUEAL!! like Ned Beatty in the back woods. They are being swapped out tomorrow.
I ordered a pair of Fabspeed Maxflo mufflers to replace the Supercup exhaust, which in turn, I sold to another Rennlister through the marketplace here.
Thanks for the tip on the belts.
I plan on editing the OP with links to sponsors gear for items on the list.
I kind of snuck in the back door with The One. Post below has pics

And here is another gratuitous pic. More to come.

Went for another drive in rural Mont. Co. today. With such gorgeous weather and with a "new" 993 staring at me I just couldn't resist.
I am starting to feel more comfortable with driving her, the shift points, rev matching, how she handles on throttle and brake. I could have gone all day but am glad I didn't. When I shut her off my ears were ringing a little from that Supercup exhaust. What a car--so much more to learn.
Engine tray? What engine tray? I don't think she is wearing her skirt, I mean engine tray, is she? This is how she came (ppi shot).
