I will have the engine out for a top-end rebuild and would like to take advantage to have the distributor rebuilt. I will not like to spend the time doing it myself (too many projects at the same time...too little time) so I am looking for a shop to send it to.
Can you recommend a shop? ideally on the east coast. Any idea of how much will this cost (this could potentially change my mind!!)
Steve Weiner - Rennsport Systems, Portland, Oregon. He rebuilt the distributors on my last two 993 NA's. I believe he is the only one has the OEM bearings, in the event you should need them. How many miles on you car that needs a top end? Was it valve guides?
Yeah, you can DIY in less time that it takes to box it up and sent id out, and then receive the package.... :-) - its about an hours work. I have also a shortened procedure, you do not have to remove the secondary dust cover nor shaft. If the bearings are good, its pretty quick.
If the bearings are bad, there is a potential source for bearings at hopefully a reasonable price that we are waiting on.
I also hear there is a new business in the works right here on Rennlist
Unfortunately Mark, as most of us know, the bearings aren't available from Porsche, Bosch or the aftermarket at all, and if they are, not at what I consider a reasonable price. If they were, I wouldn't bother modifying a standard 7201.
BTW, a business not making any money is hardly a business.
