eBay Center Caps - Yay or Nay?
I just dropped off my new-old set of Cups at the powder coaters today, and I settled on satin black (40%). I noticed these on eBay, and seem like a great alternative to trying to paint up a set of caps; but at, what, like 1/4 of the cost of Porsche caps or less, are they good..or at least good enough? They *look* pretty good, but that's fooled me more than once before!

Bought center caps for an Audi off eBay a few years back. Total garbage. The tabs broke off as I tried to get them on the wheel. I would stay away. You get what you pay for in this case.

Travis,
You might want to wait on painting until you've got the center caps and paint them to match at the same time. Those on ebay look like shyte, imho. Definitely not Porsche parts, nor near 1/2 the quality. Fit would be questionable.
Either via this thread or a new post, you might check here on RL to see if someone's got some old centers they no longer need (I got a set that way, in a multi-way trade for some old centers I had).
Sean Steele here at the local Pcar parts yard might have a bin full of old centers, give him a call. (no affil, except that he's a local PCA'er and club supporter)

I just gave away a weather-worn set of center caps for the cost of shipping.
Sniff around on Rennlist/Pelican and you'll find a set.

Yeah I saw that; I missed them by minutes!
And shouldn't you guys be working rather than trolling around the forum all day scooping up the deals? It's like some of you guys think you're retired or something...

The problem isn't the cap itself, it's the retaining tabs .. the Chinese caps are slightly too small in diameter and don't fit snug (ask me how I know ...) plus the crest red bars are kind of pinkish red, not deep red like the factory ones. When you see them side by side, it's obvious why the OEM caps are better and then you put them on the wheels and the OEM caps fit snug and tight .... and you toss the chinese POS caps in the trash ... end of story ....

Someone PM'd me these...they are starting to creep out of the cheap range, but the retainer looks much better compared to plastic tabs. Might be the compromise I am looking for..

Minor aesthetic things don't worry me much for these. They just aren't wheels I want to spend $200 on center caps for..they're more like placeholders until I can decide on what I really want.

I have a set of the metal ones ^^^ being painted now, the fit is super tight .. I had to actually put a towel over the cap and really smack it with my fist to get them on and have to remove from the back .. but crest is nice and I thought the quality was very good ..

Yep, same seller, but I ordered silver with color crests ... silver seemed easiest to do a color change on. The are convex BTW as opposed to concave which IMHO looks better on our wheels .. but you hardly notice that when they're mounted up.
