Default ??? Options for Radio ???

Hi All,
I have been toying with the idea of replacing the factory CD/Radio in the C4S. I am looking for something with a little better reception and possibly a iPhone/Bluetooth hookup. Does anyone have any opinions or maybe a photo of something installed in the car?

Thanks
Ryan

I just bought a 993 which has a Becker Indianapolis Pro fitted. I'm quite impressed with it as the look seems in keeping with the age of the car yet it has bluetooth phone, satnav and ipod connection. All of these modes seem to work pretty well too.

The satnav is not as intuitive to use or easy to follow as a tom tom or garmin because it's all operated through the the tiny lcd screen in the head unit. but it's okay given the display limitations.

BeckerAutosound. They're $649 but I wonder if we could organize a group buy? I'm game.

I like the blaupunkt Toronto 410 bt
I have not figured out how to connect the Bluetooth but I'm happy with the way the iPod connects.

Ben, I looked for and found the BT manual (it is a separate one) in my garage after reading this post. Shoot me an email with your address and I'll throw it in the mail to you: joshuaweinstein@ymail.com.

Thanks.

Here it is in real life.
Just installed the 80PRS. Awesome unit. Custom match the colour to the interior lights. 16 band EQ... blah blah

Default Pioneer DEX-P99RS head unit... Very nice audio.

Here's a crumby picture of the CD AM/FM head unit, its a Pioneer DEX-P99RS. "Some say" its the best of the lot. - use your best Top Gear English accent here.
An understated asthetic with tier one audio performance.
The stock Porsche/Nokia HiFi option with its 3-way speaker enclosures in the doors were fitted with Dynaudio drivers. The stock look all the way..
The bass reflex/transmission line tuned door enclosures tune very well with the P99RS head units hurculean DSP filtering and an active system arrangement
driving/controlling the Dynaudio's. The 3GS iphone TomTom navigation app with its active antenna cradle automatically mutes the stereo for phone calls or navi voice instruction.

If you’ve declared only the OEM radio aesthetic will do (this once included me) then I’d encourage you to upgrade any one of the existing OEM Porsche /Becker units by adding a modern out-board DSP module. The recently rolled out Mosconi 6 to 8 DSP comes to mind, and or the Mosconi ONE series amps with the on-board DSP option. Many of these DSP units can fit under the passenger seat such as the Mosconi ONE amp w/ DSP. The 993s stock Porsche/Becker head units will easily connect; simply ditch the HiFi options wiring with its conical DIN connector for RCA’s at the OEM Nokia out-board amp side. And if your 993 doesn’t have the HiFi option even better – simply constructing new radio to amp output leads or buy off the shelf. In the end you will have new amplification with herculean DSP filtering and additional inputs for whatever.. iPod, etc.

Mosconi link: http://www.mosconi.org/one120_4_DSP.html

For all those who will accept an aftermarket HU … the very new Pioneer DEH-80PRS something or other head unit w/ class leading DSP filtering, 24/96 DACs and clean output @4 ohm 20hz-20khz 4x20w RMS is hard to beat. Theres a ton of features; Pandora, Bluetooth, 5V pre-out should you go that route, Time Alignment, 16 band EQ, 3 way XO, etc. All for a street price of $350.00 or so. it’s the smart up grade….. IMHO.

Our Porsche / Becker radio's such as the HiFi option w/CDR-210 & CD changer uses 20 year old DACs. Todays aftermarket head unit offerings more recently (although slow) are adopting 24/96 DACs which makes a world of difference. In Pro Audio 24/96 DACs have been common place for more than a decade or so.. Couple high quaility DACs with powerful present day DSP filtering and the Porsche / Becker head units of old just bought a new life. My $.02

I added a Kenwood BT948HD...lots of great functions and it still fits the interior nicely. You can also change the display color to match the 993 interior lights. I have a thread on it if you search.

I just ordered the new pioneer from crutchfield. My car audiophile friend was impressed by the specs. I like the looks and features and figure the sound will be fine considering the tiny speakers in a 911.
