I don't care what industry we're talking about, your wrench is out of time, money or both. I've seen to many itimes n the automotive world and the construction world and its the same thing, they are trying to find a Peter to rob to pay a Paul (you are the Paul acit993). I just absorbed a company that was doing just that (unbeknown to me and promptly showed the principles the door) and it sounds the same every time.....excuse after excuse until they've bought enough time to appease you (while someone else behind you goes through it too).

Get your car back now while you can and move on!!!

In LA? What homework did you do? SoCal is so blessed with good Porsche shops that know their stuff and would never take 3+ months to do this, barring some part shortage.

I'd not be confident in the outcome at this point. Sorry, my opinion.

How about your regular mechanic who recommended the shop? Have you gone to him with this? He should take some action, but for his referral you wouldn't be in this jam.

The Trans. needed first gear and main shaft which are one and the same, the motor needs a top end due to worn valve guides.

Well after a long and stressful battle my car is still not done. I had my last meeting with my mechanic tonight and believe it or not his deadline was today and its not anywhere near done. I won't go into the endless details but I do need help in finding a new shop in the Los Angeles area to take it to. This is my busiest time at work so I can't get the car until the 8th of March.

WOW.......a nightmare for you, but I'll be nice in this post......

I hope your take one or more of the following actions:

1) Get your ducks in a row to sue them, after you get the car at this point..............hopefully you documented with written correspondence, etc...
2) Report the car as missing to your insurance after you pick it up and leave it on the street in LA...with the keys in it......
3) Take the car out of the shop without paying for it....... TIP - ask for test drive alone before paying and just leave........ I did this once and NOTHING HAPPENED.........got car repaired elsewhere.......AND........if they sue you....countersue.....

Is the core of the engine together, and what confidence in the work do you have now?

Its a tough question, the reason I ask is moving the job to another mechanic has its own challenges - many mechanics will not warranty (don't blame them) jobs that they take on partially done, since they do not know the quality of what was built.

Best of luck!

Cheers,

Mike

+1

Mechanics do not like getting basket cases rolling in (by basket case, I mean a car someone else took apart and is all in boxes). There are too many unknown variables (missing parts, bad work, etc).
Unfortunately, you are between a rock and hard place - moving to another mechanic will be problematic and likely more costly, but forcing a guy to finish a job he is clearly not able to complete is just asking for problems.

I'd say document everything (estimated cost, time lost vs. original delivery date, etc). Move the car to a shop that understands what you are bringing them and is willing to deal with it. Get an estimate from them. Then take this guy to small claims court when it's all done - I think CA is going up to a $10K small claims limit this year.

Sorry to hear what that shop is putting you through.

Why don't you name the shop? It sure would be nice for us in the Los Angeles area, and beyond, to know to avoid.

If you don't "out" a bad shop, then they can continue to act this way to others. Spread the word, and it may help put them out of business....

Once I have the car in my possession I will reveal the shop. The last thing I would want is for a fellow Rennlister to go through what I'm going through. Any body have any idea where I should take to be completed ?
