It seems to be a rare option and is a popular delete project. We have a rainy season here in Eureka and when I get my 993 (hopefully mid 2012) most of my driving will be in town at moderate speeds. Seems like the wiper would be a useful thing to have. Or am I missing something?

Here in Seattle, we get some rain. When parked & reversing, the wiper is very nice to have so I can see where I'm going. I use mine more then I thought I would.
Other then that, it really doesn't do anything. Once you are moving the air going over the rear window cleans it off for you.

It rains all the time where I live, and at slow speeds (driving around town) the rear wiper is great!
I think people are deleting it purely for aesthetical reasons.

In other words, it's ugly

It's a rare option? I thought it wasn't.
The rear wiper arm is rather fragile and prone to bending if not handled correctly. Also, some are of the mindset it's not really necessary, just adds weight and ugly to the car, and is just another thing that needs to be maintained (rear wiper blade, etc.) that really doesn't add a whole lot of function, unless you live in a rainy climate.

I almost deleted mine. As stated earlier, the rear wiper arm is fragile and many have broken. A new one is about 175 USD. If I had not found a used one on ebay, mine would have been removed.

This is very true. I had a buddy break mine before a car show trying to clean the rear window he managed to break the wiper. I said no big deal, bought a used one from a fellow rennlister because i liked the way it looked, kinda nerdy i guess then i promptly broke the replacement wiper trying to put the wiper on. The arm snapped off like a piece of toffee. I promptly ordered a plug according to p-car workshop DIY and should have listened to those who told me to delete it in the first place (noH20)

Exactly what happened to me. Had another RL'er not had one for sale when I broke mine, it would have been deleted. Mine has never been used in six years of ownership.

It looks crappy. Distracts from the clean lines of the car. And it's useless. At speed there is never any rain water on the rear windshield. And even if you had a few drops just turn on the rear defogger and they're gone in a minute.

I checked the R. Wiper option box when spec'ing out the 993; a long time ago.
The wiper has proven to be superfluous, but it would be a waste of time to remove it, no?
While driving cross country a few years ago there was an all day rain storm - pretty fierce rain conditions - can't say I recall ever using the R. Wiper. (I can count on one hand the time's my 993 has been driven in the rain.)
Having the R.Wiper in say snow/slush conditions would be a plus .... but otherwise its superfluous for this owner.
