Default 340 or 360 Steering wheel?

Im just about to pull the triger on an Atiwe steering wheel from FVD for Christmas (I have been good..sort of) and noticed that several have purchased these wheels in a group buy. Any second thoughts on the size choice as most ordered 340? Anything else learned from the other options ? Leather vs vinyl air bag or colar? Im leaning to 360 ..or are they both good? many thanks Doug

I have a 340. Its perfect especially if you are tall. Leather on the airbag. Otherwise it looks ugly and out of place that plastic compared to the rest of the wheel.

I purchased the 340mm Silberpfeil model. The feel and quality is good although 2 minor issues come to mind. I can't see the red general warning light very well and the upper radius of the speedo is covered up from about 60mph all the way to 120 or so. The 360mm might not have that problem but I learned to live with it. I orient myself mainly on the tach. I have a Nav on the windshield which shows the speed and I prefer that over the dash speedo.
Hope it'll help you decide.

Doug,

I also had a 340 mm and did not like it for the same reasons Ed mentioned above. Nice wheel either way.

Default 340mm all the way!

I have 340's in all three of my 993's.I have never had any issues with not being able to see the speedo. My wife's tip has the one with paddle's.It is really cool, like a Ferrari.Go for the smaller wheel. You will not regret it.You should be able to know your speed by looking at the tachometer and being aware of what gear you are in.If you drive with a navigation unit you can always use it as your speedo if you really want to.

I have the AJ-USa steering wheel # AJR-348-090-CL. I believe by the part number it would be 348 mm OD. It is a Atiwe brand.

It is a perfect size for me and minimum view obstruction to the gauges. I am 160 lb and 6'. The best addition to my 993 yet.

I appreciate the up to date comments and experiences. I agree with Mike on its probably the best upgrade you can make. I found that true when I added a 930S wheel to my 3.2. Its truly always in your face. I will have it for Christmas if I order next week. thanks again Doug

I was part of the group buy, but the wheel went with the car when I sold it. I loved the feel and size of the 340mm, except that the horn buttons that ATIWE placed were exactly where your palms would be during spirited driving, like an autocross. Unless you took the horn fuse out, you will be beeping all over the place!

On the turbo, I went cheaper, and have a 4 spoke wheel recovered and padded out from another Rennlister, and I put my old black airbag in with hit. That will keep me happy for a while.

The original steering wheel is 380mm.
With a 365mm one, the difference in size is minimal.

For me, the 340mm is perfect in a 993.
Especially the fatter, more ergonomic grip is what I like about these steering wheels.

Default Raid wheel

Gert--any "feelings" one way or the other on Raid's "smooth" vs. "perforated" leather. Looks like prices have come down a good bit so a viable alternative to recovering a factory 3 spoke and airbag.

I have the 365mm Ruf wheel in my 993 which is a nice size and completely clear of the dials.

I also have the 340mm Ruf wheel in my 996 which has a much fatter grip and feels much better.

I have the FVD Daytona in 340mm and absolutely love it. Perfect for the 993.

IMO it's a matter of taste.
Some say the grip is better with perforated leather while others say that this sort of leather doesn't match in the 993 interior.

Yes, we could decrease the prices for Raid steering wheels due to a better dealer status.
