Default My 2011 PCA Parade project

Earlier this year, I was asked by the PCA to create a number of my desk clocks for the 2011 Parade in Savannah, GA. The clocks were to be given to employees within PCNA and Porsche AG (the red one went to Hans Peter Porsche). Although the event happened four months ago, I wanted to post this before the year ended.

Rather than typing up a long overview, I'll let the pictures tell the story. I drove the collection to Savannah, took part in the presentation, and then spent the next day enjoying the Concours before heading home. It was a wonderful experience and I'm honored that the PCA chose me to create these gifts.

This thread includes links to previous clocks I've created on a request basis.

Enjoy the pics.

Great work Andreas!

Did you take the group photo of the clocks on someone else's deck? I wouldn't imagine you would have leaves on your deck. You would have cleaned it first!

Judging by the quantities shown above, I'll be cursing you if I need a second hand clock or fan and the prices are sky high due to your impact on supply/demand!!!
Having said that, your clocks, imagination and work in general are a pleasure to read about here and I just updated my Christmas wish list.
It is fantastic that you were invited to mingle with the recipients of these wonderful sculptures, I hope they feel as honored as you.

That must have been a lot of work.

I think when you hand over the clocks, the hands should be on 9:11.

Time was of the essence. The deck has since been stripped and sealed.

Thank you for the kind words. As for clock/fan supply, you'll be dismayed to learn that I've created more than 100 993 desk clocks over the last 5 years...

For all I know, it ended up in the dumpster behind his house...

Thanks Bill. As for the VW thing, well, his name is "Type 1". The shop foreman at my father's VW dealership made this for him in the early '70s. For as long as I can remember, it stood at the entrance to our houses over the years. In those days, it was painted black and sported a cylinder for a head, with spark plugs as ears, a cam lobe for a nose, spider gears as eyes, and a muffler clamp as the mouth. All Type 1 (Beetle) parts. When my partents retired to NC 10 years ago, I took ownership of "Type 1". At that point, he was badly rusted and the 'head' had cracked off. I sat the carcass in the the corner of my shop for a few years before deciding to resurrect him. I never cared for the cylinder 'head', so I created a bracket and used an old VW bus "VW" for the head. One of the arms had broken off, so I re-welded that. Then I carted him off to be sandblasted and powdercoated.

He's been keeping watch over our dining room for the last year.

Quite an accomplishment. You should be proud. The one you made for me still generates comments from new visitors to my "Porsche Room".

I can't help noticing your absence in the photos.....POST EM!
