Hehehe - nice mug shot. Is that you in the pic with the kid with the bread boobies?
Can't wait to see how the black interior conversion turns out. It looks like too much hard work to me.

The dye arrived today when i got home from work. Now the wife wants to cuddle tonight, and not the 8 minutes cuddle……grrrrrr, and tomorrow I must attend to the company’s Christmas party…..no dyeing here…until Saturday
The last picture is the “applicator” of the dye, you softly dab the color on……

Looks great. How are you tracking on your estimate of 20 labor hours?

Well so far 3 effective hours to strip out the interior, 2 hours to clean what’s going to be dyed. Calculating 6 hours to dye…..
And the rest 6 hours for the carpets and 3 for the interior back in place….the clock stops for beers, a smoke, cuddling with the wife and food

Can I make a suggestion, having dabbled in this myself. My experience is that you can get very nice results color-changing vinyl, but airbrushing is far superior to painting. Painting always just looks, well, like you painted it. If you air-brush it properly, you basically can't tell the difference. Since you've gone through all the effort to R&R the parts, might make sense to airbrush.

^ He speaks the truth. However, if you do decide to use the foam applicator, thin down the dye with water (assuming it is water-based) and put VERY light coats on properly-prepped seats. Seeing the attention to detail thus far, I trust you already have all of the bases covered. Can't wait to see the result!

You have it figured out. Dynamix recommend to air brush it on with 20% dilution. As an old model builder I’m very familiar with air brushes, and have 3 very expensive air brushes from Pasche, but a F16 strike fighter in scale 1:48 is a lot smaller then a car seat, so then I have to buy a bigger air brush…like the one that also paint the surroundings?
You got me a little confused, because air brushing is the way to go at least with the seats. I will look for an affordable air gun with adjustment possibilities, an get the car out of the garage to gain some space for the dye process

Okay…here we go with the color….
I realized that the only leather I have in the car is the boot for the gear stick. When I did my 964 it was full leather interior, but the color seems to bite good also on this. I give you some random pictures from today. When the color first came on it looked like ****, but as soon as the drying started, it looked a lot better. If you look at the picture of the ashtray, looks like paint mixed with grovels…but that is air bubbles. With a little help with a hairdryer…the other photo is 3 minutes later.
I think I will give everything a second round to get it black-black….more to come….

I'm finding this thread absolutely amazing what you can do to a car if you're obsessed, eh, urhrr, I mean't, motivated. This is cool stuff here!

Did you consider upgrading to nicer pedals while you're doing this? Verhag posted this pic of his last year. I have knock off types but love them.

I'm surprised the dye didn't call for you to 'scuff' the surface of the vinyl/leather with fine sandpaper first .. most of the dye-kits I've seen say to do that. Just wondering ...

I have now found one of my airbrushes, and the way to go is to dye 1 layer by hand, and then finish it 1-2 hours later with the airbrush with 20 % mix of water. I use the hairdryer a lot to speed up drying. Here are some more pictures. As you can see, you have to separate everything as the glove lid. You can now see my finished dashboard with the vent back in. The result is great.
I will use sandpaper on the seats. I looked at E-bay Germany yesterday, and missed 2 black seats with 30 minutes. No one put a bid on them, and they where put out at 1 Euro...shame I missed them
