Default Grand Theft Hood Badge

My wife and i went to an outdoor mall this morning. Got a good parking spot on the street at the end of an aisle with no door ding potential. Browse around the mall for a bit, hop back in the car and head home. When I get out of the car in the garage, something catches my eye - my hood badge is missing! Who steals a hood badge in broad daylight in a shopping mall? I really can't see it falling off. Some people

Where's the best place to pick up a new one? I'd like to keep the stock gold colored badge.

Thanks,

Default No damage?

How could someone pry off the badge without leaving any dents or marks?
Maybe it did fall off

Indeed, I don't see how it could be removed without scratching the heck out of your paint, and without destroying the badge in the process. If the nuts on the backside of it were broken off, it could easily fall off while driving. Maybe that's what happened.

Nuts are intact underhood. It looks to be cleanly removed - the face of the studs through the hood appear to be cleanly sheared. Maybe it did fall off. Although, you'd think I'd see or hear it while driving. Oh well. It did have a nick in it and was on my list of things to remedy.

Obey the US speed limits, and your badge shouldn't fall off!

Get another badge, and apply 3M VHB tape. The badge will "never" come off again. McMaster Carr sells that stuff.

Shoot, if this becomes epidemic-remember a few years ago when the "rapper community" was stealing MB stars for their application to "jewelry"(?)-I'd just as soon make it easier to clip off, if indeed it was snapped off by some looser. Tape's gonna increase the chance of hood damage.

The badge might have been installed to tightly & using it to close the hood over time broke the studs off. But you should have seen/hear the badge flying off.

Yeah, no theft, it broke off. The general theory is that aggressive hood-closing by placing hand on emblem may have eventually wore out the studs.

Oh snap! That's what I do to shut the hood. Where else to put hands without leaving handprint?

I do shut the hood using the emblem - that must have been it. Mystery solved.

I've used the emblem on my 911 for 10 years to close the bonnet.
