What made you buy a Porsche?
On my way to work enjoying the last few driving days in the Porsche before winter storage, I was thinking about how I arrived at buying a 993. It started back in 1984. I moved out to WA to become an ink technician for Sun Chemical company. That didn't turn out so well after finding out I was color blind. Anyway, I drove by Bellevue Porsche everyday and finally got enough nerve to stop in. There was a Porsche in the showroom that made me stop in my tracks. It was purple and had a red interior. Sounds awful, but really was stunning. So much so, that I couldn't stop thinking about it to this day. I vowed some day I would own a Porsche.

In high school, I was a lot boy at a large dealership (EVS in the Falls, for you in SE Wisconsin) and drove a lot of different cars- Muscle cars, SL's, big Merc's, Panteras, Vettes, etc. I wasn't much of a "car guy" until a '73 T showed up. Took it from the body shop to the showroom, which is a total of maybe 1/2 mile. That's all it took.

Nice ... Growing up I was lucky enough to live 5 blocks from the Porsche dealer that was used in the movie Risky Business combination of seeing the 928 in the movie and stopping by every week w my friends and drooling... I remember getting my 1st job in highschool and telling my mom I'm going to save ip for a 928...I've been lucky enough to own allot of the luxury brands and I've just been really happy with the brand... I will say I'm lucky enough to have a friend that owns a Euro repair shop... So upkeep has been pretty good.

I was working for the Southern Pacific Railroad in 1977 and one of the trainmen had a new 930 in the parking lot. I could not get over how cool the wide rear fenders looked. Later that week I drove by a porsche dealer and there was a yellow 74 911S sitting in the front with the Carrera script on the sides.
I never got the image of those wide fenders out of my head.

What made you buy a Porsche?
A cell phone yapping idiot of a kid who rammed me and my stopped-in-traffic motorcycle into the car ahead of me, made me buy a Porsche.
Life can be short so I decided to buy the car that I always wanted, could have bought earlier, but never saw the point.

Similar but slightly different story. I came back from Viet Nam in late '69 (I'm really old) with more money in one place than I'd ever had in my entire life. I was 24 and thought I was going back there in a year or so. Bought a slightly used '69 S about two weeks later.

A good ride in a '69 911S when I was 19 years old. I was a muscle car guy but fell in love with this small displacement, high winding, fast, screaming little beast.

Similar to the story above (jimbo3), I was a go-fer/lot boy for a used car dealership during the summers of high school. One day one of the owner’s buddies—both of them flashy/cheesy guys—came in with a red 911 SC cab. This was in Baton Rouge, LA in the early 80’s.
It must have been obvious that I had never seen a car like that and the guy threw me the keys and said: “have fun with it for 10 minutes.” After stalling the car trying to pull out of the dealership, I sheepishly drove it around the block at probably not over 30 mph and brought it back. That’s not what I told my friends.
I was a “car guy” in spite of the fact that my car was a Honda Prelude. It wasn’t long before I had numerous Porsche posters and lifelong desire for cars that I couldn’t afford. It took 15 years to buy my first one but it has been a fun journey with a lot of good stories and some great friends along the way.

My brother-in-law let me drive his 1969 912 (this was probably in 1971). I thought the car was great, but needed more hp. A year later I found a beautiful 1970 911E coupe. I sold my 1967 Mustang GT fastback with 4-speed to get the Porsche. I wish I still had both.

In high school I wanted a MGB GT BAD!! (remember this is the late 60's) Was going to get a car when I finished college (my dad wouldn't let me have a car in college and he was right- I never would have made it into med school), and I then wanted a BMW 2002 until my uncle got a '69 912, the first Porsche in our family. That did it- got a '71 914- still have it...
PS- I'd still love a MGB-GT, but now lust for a 100-4 Healy...)

Can I add a response even though I don't have one....yet?
In the back seat of my parents rusty 1983 Honda accord (about 18 years ago) heading out to the cabin. Saw/heard a blue car absolutely fly by us. Asked my mom "What kind of car was that?" Her response "A Porsche". I have been obsessed since. I am looking to pull the trigger on a 993 in the spring...finally.
