Agreed, I am doing a lot of modifications to suspension, engine and gearbox so they have to come out anyway. It is a lot easier to clean the parts off the car (I have a solvent spray parts cleaner and an ultrasonic cleaner) and also to get into all the nooks and crannies as well behind the parts as well.

It is so much nicer to work on a clean chassis that has the cosmoline removed.

BTW, I found the best thing to remove cosmoline is a soaking spray of WD40 and a brushing with a stiff brush followed by a spray of Grease Eater and wiping with plain and then microfiber towels

TommyG: your car looks terrific, I am sure you had a lot of happy hours looking back on what you had done as you worked.

Did you find a shop in New England area?

I want to have a complete undercarriage, suspension, engine bay detailing done.

Digging this up a little but I found people to do this, they just need access to a lift. The cost is approximately $1k per car. Might do it in the spring if anyone is interested.

I appreciate a clean undercarriage, but don't tell me that all the cosmoline that Porsche put down there is "slowly deteriorating" my undercarriage bullsh1t.

IMHO the cosmoline preserves it for those of us who remove it. Things are always nicer under the cosmo'
