Phil,

You are such a dork.... (psss.... I still think my 993 was better looking than the 458)

I like your stealth 993. Hope all is well.

Can't comment much about how Ferraris drive as I have only driven a F430 for about 15 minutes but regarding looks I have to say that the 458 disappointed me a little bit when I first saw it in the flesh; in the pictures I had seen it looked fantastic (just like the matt black one in Ilko's great pictures) but in the flesh it is like it is trying too hard. I guess that is what Ferraris (or Lamborghinis) are about, but it was just too wide and with that face at the front trying to look aggressive.

With the 993 is the other way around... I have taken many pictures of mine but I never manage to get the effect you get when you see it in the flesh. I have also seen many pictures on books or the web but none of them seem to make justice.
The 993 kind of looks ordinary from the distance but the closer you get, the better it looks.
And of course it is so much smaller... I like that as well. i don't ilke big cars.

Just my 2p.

To me the 355 is beautiful, but in a 928S4 sort of way: big, chunky, but hides the girth well.

The 458 is nice from some angles, but frankly, it looks gimmicky ...like a caracature of a sports car. And that interior shot ...gads and gasp at the ugliness!!! That is the quintessense of gimmickery (Fiero comment is right on!).

The most beautiful F-cars for me have always been the Daytona, the Dino, and the California ...in no particular order, all drop-dead gorgeous! But these represent a by-gone era where simplicity was a facet of beauty. Of the modern Fs, the 360 takes it. Now that is a stunner from every angle. Like the 993 and other classic 911s, the 360 exudes tight lines that are as graceful as they are muscular.

wow, thats the first time I've ever seen an f355 compared to a pig 928.

The f355 is:

167.3 inches long with a 96.5 inch wheelbase
75 inches wide
46.1 inches high
weighs 2,950lbs

The 993 is:

167.7 inches long with a 89.4 inch wheelbase
68.3" wide
51.8" high
weighs about 3000lbs.

So aside from being wider, the f355 is shorter and lower.

not seeing big or chunky in the least.

Funny ...must be the proportions and lines which give the 355 a much more girthy look to my eye. But like I said, I don't dislike it; I like it the way I like the 928, which is a very good-looking car once the stance is set right. Yet both still look large to me, despite appearing muscular.

But the 993 (and 911s) are simply in a class of their own. That would be the "awesome" class

993 is a nice car, but a 458 is another thing ....
and is not a fear comparison.
458 is another level and way another price tag

i love the 458 ...... a very impressive car.

[QUOTE=justin993;8872388]There is a great cars n coffee every Saturday morning about a mile from my house. There is some pretty serious stuff that shows up. And sometimes we get a bunch a guys hovering around a $15k car surrounded by a bunch of over $100k cars.

996 TT is far more car than a 360. (any angle any scenario)

and better for the street , and track and everyday use and whatever you want ...

430 is another story .... it is a big step forward on F design.

I love my 993, but the Ferrari 458 is breathtaking in every way.

Here is a video of my buddies driving away:

The 3 tip exhaust sounds magnificent.

Was that the shift to 2nd I heard on both cars? If so, talk about a short gear!

I own a 993TT, a 996TT and a F355. All three cars are amazing but there is something very special about the 355. Its not as fast as the 993TT but its no slouch either. Its the most fun to drive of the 3 - hands down.

The 993 of the Ferrari world is definately the 355.

THe f430 is in another league. Especially an F1 spyder --nothing quite like the way that drives, and the sound -- possibly one of the nicest sounds in the automotive world -- IMHO it sounds better than the 458

How about a comparison between 458 vs 991 Turbo
That sounds like a winner
Just remember what the 993 Turbo did to the F355....

Not really. The redline is up around 8500 or slightly higher. I experience the same thing with my 360 - for normal driving I typically shift from 1st to 2nd at around 3000 and it's "sounds" like it winding tight. However, in reality if I plant my foot it easily hits 8500 in 1st and is then making an unbelieveable scream. So I doubt those two 458's were going much above 3500 when they pulled out.

Cheers.
