Default tach removal link

Instrument lights for my tach went out.
Looked for links showing how to replace them, only found stuff for 944, 928...no 993.
Got link?

What's the question, exactly? Pull the tach out of the dash. You'll see the bulbs on the back.

Do tell me more; I've searched "993 tach removal", "993 instrument cluster lighting", "993 tach light bulb replacement", no avail.

Is the tach simply friction fit into the cluster? I pulled a little, but hesitate to try to pry it out, seems to be in there pretty tight.

Gordo

PS: The tach is stock, basic 1995 993.

Yes, it just is press fit. Just work it out from side to side and it will slip out. Others may have a specific technique. It's been a while since I've done it but remember it was not hard.

Gordo, it's a simple press fit.

There are a couple issues. One is that tach housing tends to crack right around the top ring. So be careful prying it out. You can just try to pull it by rocking it, you can pry the sides up a bit with screwdriver blade wrapped in some soft material or you can pull the clock or speedo, contort your hand and push the tach from behind.

When installing it back make sure that you use soapy water on the gasket to make it slide easier. Otherwise it gets caught and turned and doesn't sit flat.

I believe p-car site has the actual writeup. I know it does at least in the section about changing instrument faces. There's also section on OBC fix, etc.

Try this link: http://privat.bluezone.no/toreb2000/obcrepair.html

I had my steering wheel removed which helped a lot.

Thanks guys, the bluezone link is very helpful...and the soapy water trick.
I did manage to work the tach loose while sitting at a few stoplights....when I get home tonight I will see what it takes to squeeze it out over the top of the steering wheel thing.

Don't have to remove steering wheel. But if you do, make sure battery is disconnected. Otherwise if you turn the key the airbag light will come on and stay on. And as a side bonus airbag might just blow up with battery attached as you disconnect the connector.
