Anyway, busy fall with cyclocross racing-I'm actually hoping to be in Saratoga on Sun. Oct 23rd for a race-if I can do a Friday/Saturday thing at Andreas first. The race'll come second to eating and drinking with him.
Anyway, Saratoga is just 1 1/2 hours from me, would love to meet up.

Sorry guys.. I like the 993.. it's a classic, but..
But when you put on a 360 (or 458) and drive down the road... it's like walking into a sausage party with a supermodel. :-) No Porsche I've ever driven compares to my 360. It really is in a different league. :-)

I've been saying that here for years.......it doesn't go over to well . However I do love my 993 and my 360.
I love everything about the new 458 except the headlights. OK, to put it another way, I like the 993 headlights better. How's that?
(Trying to figure out the "sausage party and a supermodel" reference. )
Cheers.

Sausage party: A party where the proportion of men drastically exceeds women, greater than 80-90%.
Bring a beautiful model into the party and you are THE MAN.

Irrelevant Comparisons
I really do not see the point with all these meaningless comparisons between different era Ferraris and Porsches; if you want to compare the 993 Turbo its equivalent was the F355 and as good as that Ferrari was, it was no match for the Porsche
Period correct Ferrari-Porsche comparisons could be 288GTO vs 959 vs F40
Post 1998 era non-Porsche cars have little comparison relevance on this forum and aesthetical perceptions of "street cred" are a purely personal matter
Traditionally speaking ofcourse, Porsche owners prefer the undestated, teutonic simplicity to Ferrari's loud or Lamborghini's over the top image and that has always been part of the 911's appeal
sssshhhhh........

Not to mention, even as a 993TT owner, I doubt you'd find many that would say a 993tt is better looking than this:

The interaction with the guys looking at my car was funny. They weren't blind, or idiots. They really appreciated the classic lines of the 993. I didn't say the 993 was a better car or a better performer. I thought their interest was a good comment on a car that Porsche built fifteen years ago that did almost everything right - and that comes off pretty damn well years later versus a car worth almost ten times as much.
And this thread has taken on the typical life of the p-car vs. f-car thread.
If this was F-Chat, many would be saying how common the 911 is, and that the difference between a 1965 911 and a 997 can't be deciphered. I love the p-car for what it is, and the f-car for what it is.
And to beat the F355 horse to death - amazing looks, driving experience and sound - but total terd in the quality and servicing department. Not even close to a 993tt, and worth way less apples to apples.

the 993TT is a better performer, is built better, and is easier to service. But its also not an italian exotic...there is a "passion" appeal that can't always be quantified.
They are not the same type of car, so the apples to apples comparison is not really valid.

Having driven a 355, I have to say I don't want one. Sure it has the looks and the sounds and it's a hell of a ride! But after 20 minutes there are things that start bugging you. Like the seriously off-center steering wheel (also a standard feature on newer models). Or the heat from the center tunnel next to your right leg. Getting in and out of one is also something that you will need training for. It is just not a car I would take on a 2-hour drive.

The only reasons I didn't buy a 355 instead of my 993TT were the lack of torque and general speed in the f-car and the dangers of valve guides, manifolds and all the other problems.
A Gallardo or a nice red/tan 360 spider with a manual, oh yes.

After reading some of the responses to my original post, I remember why I seldom post here and then usually just on mechanical issues....
