'Its the same thing every time a new 911 comes out. Owners of older cars hate it for the first few years, then end up driving it and realizing its a fantastic car. Just about every 997 owner says the thing is hideous, yet it looks pretty much exactly like a 997".

I don't feel that way about the 996, now that it's been out for a few years.

I'll stay with the air cooled 911s. Its got a 3 in. longer wheelbase (to accommodate a hybrid version in '16 ), and is wider. To big for my liking. The interior is to much. When Porsche stated with the "luxury interior" it lost a lot of the rawness that I love in the older P-Cars. It seems to be more of a GT. Maybe they can get some suicide doors like the outgoing RX-8. I like my 911s air cooled, plain on the inside, and with out the electronic nannies. ABS is as far as I want to go down that path. I still have not changed my feelings toward the 996. The 997 was a good move. Now this.

Default Porsche’s new 7-speed shift pattern

For related videos & discussion, click Craig's "991 Spy shots and the Cayman is DEAD!" thread ... which was scooped up from the 993 Forum & magically transported into the new 991 Forum.

I don't think the 991 Forum even existed when I posted on cgfen's thread ... maybe I've just inhaled too many 993 fumes?

7 speed? sweeet...However, I hope that they are close ratios. I barely use 6th as it is.

Howzaboutta an old-school Targa top?

From 9Magazine.com's "Big Change In Store For New 911 Targa:"

But be prepared for a big change with the new 911 Targa.
We gather that the next Targa will look more like the original, with its roll-bar and wrap-around rear window. Muller's response was, “We have some plans in that direction,” as he smiles.

997s that may have influenced...

From the "eRuf....Electric 997 (OT EV)" thread:

Unintended phonetic pun in Excellence's subtitle, describing RUF's 997 as "roofless"

Clearly, though, 991 Targa roll-bars are just another example of the 993's influence

A year later...

From motorAuthority.com's "2013 Porsche 911 Targa Spy Shots:"

Note the camouflaged Targa bar running through the mule's roof:
