Default best place to buy lifters?

Whats the best place to buy lifters these days?
Is one brand better than another (Luk INA, others?)? I kind of hate to buy INA if those are the same as were in the car originally. They don't seem to last.

Are the exhaust lifters typically the problem or are intakes also prone to fail?
I haven't disassembled mine yet, but it sounds like I have a bad one..

Thanks
Dan

1. exhaust lifters are more likely to fail due to the higher temps associated therewith.
2. INA is the oem brand, but they now have upgraded seals on them.
3. suncoast porsche or parts.com will likely have the best price (which is typically the same, although parts.com will likely charge more for shipping.

Have you replaced the originals, and had the replacements fail? I've not heard of any cam follower failure epidemic?

meh, the stockers can fail after a bunch of miles, especially on the exhaust. Since they aren't expensive and pretty easy to replace, you don't hear people really getting up in arms.

I've purchased INA lifters from Pelican and from AutohausAZ. They're typically about $30-35 USD. The part number I used was 993 105 141 05. These are the "standard size" lifters.

Hey Dan,

If you are looking for a co-wrench when you change yours out, let me know. Love to get dirty learning about these fine automobiles.

How much are they these days? IIRC, they were $14 years ago and then shot up to something stupid like $85 per overnight. I got a whole set at the old price, but haven't needed them yet.

I recently bought a set of standard INA lifters from Pelican Parts, around $35 ea. as Silver993 stated above. I had a quote from Sunset for $85 ea, thus went the Pelican route.

Thanks for the tip on pelican. I had seen them in the $ 85 range so this is good news.
I'm going to replace the originals, but they don't have that many miles (25K) on them so it must be age related.

Nick I think I'm going to take it apart this weekend (sunday) I can keep you posted.

Dan,

I'd be happy to stop by if you need any help. I'm practically in your neighborhood!
This weekend may not work for me, but let me know if you'd like some help another time.

You, me and Warpig should get together and compare cars.

Pelican and Autohauz here, and also picked up some from RLr's that were selling some.
